I've seen that. The working theory is the delivery person is clearing their list and cutting corners making stuff up. I've seen that at work, too. Not necessarily Amazon- everybody.

Never an 'undeliverable' notice here. They leave it on the front entryway steps.
I'm never there to accept it.

Probably came from a third party using Amazon as a storefront.
Some of those are well dodgy. Until the algos catch them at least. Amazon itself has been pretty good in my experience - but after a couple of storefront experiences I now only order stuff from them with prime shipping included. |

The delivery issue that you ran into probably didn't really have anything to do with Amazon. It was probably an issue with the shipping company. I think even the Amazon delivery folks are contractors. And how often does that happen? Even if it was a mishap that was Amazon's fault, were they happy to give you a refund? I've had a similar experience or two. Amazon always makes it right with a refund or a replacement shipment. I am always careful to order only Prime or if I prefer something not Prime, I'm careful about who the seller is, what their refund/return policy is, and what their reputation is. |

In the pest control/lawn care business when a tech claims they serviced an account - when they didn't - it's called "ghosting".

Been using Amazon since it arrived on the scene. Probably spent a hundred grand over the years - thousands of packages
A have had some instances where they say the package was delivered but in fact wasn’t. Most likely delivered to wrong address. I’ve always been refunded I’ve also experienced receiving packages that were torn open and no product inside. Was refunded. I’ve experienced ordering small parts and stuff like solder that was suddenly undeliverable and have always received a refund My only beef with Amazon is that over the years they have made it increasingly difficult to figure out how to make a claim for a refund. My knowledge of how to do this has evolved along with their evasive tactics but for someone like my old mom, forget it

Heck of a thread!
I am guessing the Amazon package was being delivered by a drone and it was mistaken for a surveillance balloon and was shot down.

I once ordered a box of Damplifier for $109. They shipped two boxes. I called them to let them know and they said, "Keep them."

These days when I order multiple items, I'm almost always given the chance to select from 3 options. 1 Items arrives as quickly as possible. 2 Items arrive together in a single box/shipment 3 Items arrive on your "Amazon day" (usually about a week) And often choosing the last option will give me a small credit ($2) towards digital items (ebooks, prime video purchase, etc....) Quote:
But I do think that's why they often prompt me to "ship items in fewer boxes." My guess is that they may have regular trucks running between some of these warehouses, so sometimes if I'm willing to receive everything on Sat instead of getting the items on Fri and Sat, it may be cheaper for them to consolidate those items in a single warehouse and then throw them in one box to send to me. I'm pretty sure that Amazon has algorithms that tell them the most efficient, fast, and cheap way to get products to the people that want them. If you've got an algorithm like that, it's a compromise (which is more important, fast, efficient, or cheap). And depending upon how their stuff is moving and how they prioritize those items determines when and how your items arrive.

Late last year I ordered two cases of aviation oil for our airplane. We always keep plenty on hand, so we can change the oil as needed by engine hours. The day the oil was due to be delivered, the order was canceled by Amazon, and the credit card was credited the next day. I just went back to Amazon, and placed the exact same order and it came in two days. No doubt the delivery guy hates to deliver two cases of heavy motor oil.
I have had a few orders just canceled by Amazon. It costs them the cost of the initial charge, and again to issue a credit. No doubt they get a better rate than my little business, but I bet it is still 2.0% or maybe 2.5% of each order and refund. So they don't like to do it. I have always guessed (assumed) the shipment was either lost (stolen) or damaged or the vendor was out of stock and could not ship it. There are lots of other vendors. Amazon itself does not stock Phillips 66 1045457-12 PK X/C Aviation Oil 20W50, just outside suppliers. If I order it from a local vendor, it comes from a warehouse 55 miles miles away on a large semi tractor trailer, only on Wednesday delivery and the cost is higher for us.

Real world situation right now. I'm polishing a Speedster gas cap in the tumbler with 3mm porcelain beads. Dry they move easily. Wet, they take some time to get a flow, which they weren't getting today. Pulled panel cover, belt is very loose and cracked enough that tightening it will immediately break it. Actually surprised it isn't broken as it is.
Tumbler mfg is in CA. They listed the part number. Found it at Napa but they wouldn't have it until Monday. Amazon will have it to me tomorrow.

A year ago, I ordered a Furminator for brushing out my dog. It arrived as scheduled, worked as advertised, no issues whatsoever.
A month or two later, I received an email from Amazon stating they've become aware that the vendor I received the Furminator from "may" have been selling cheap knock-offs. Because of this, they were refunding the cost of what I paid, asking how I would like to receive the funds: Amazon Credit, refund to my card on file, etc. I now have, what seems to me, a legit Furminator, for free. THAT is good customer service, IMHO.
