Things that make you go hmm
My wife has a cousin she grew up with. Their mothers were sisters. Father in law built a house for his mother and sister in law on his property, and they lived there until they passed away. Wayne's father, Big Wayne, was the first person to go to prison in Texas for DUI manslaughter, killed someone driving drunk. He did not have a father in the house, but had plenty of family support, that he squandered.
A few months ago, he started having headaches, progressing to double vision. Went and got checked out, they tell him he has a tumor growing in his sinuses. He freaks, bolts and eventually his common law wife talks him into going to the hospital. Scan shows a tumor that is filling his sinus cavities and has started to grow into his neck. Tumor encompasses his L carotid artery. Secondary mass on his shoulder. They are giving him dilaudid and fentanyl for the pain he is getting from the tumor pressing on his brain. They tell him he is out of network for their hospital and they want to discharge him. They say he should sign out against medical advice, and go to the ER of the hospital next door. You know, so they don't have any legal liability for kicking him to the curb. He declines discharge, offers to pay for the difference on the in vs out of network thing. They then tell him he is being abusive and threatening to the staff, and bring security to escort him out of the hospital. I told them to call the Texas Attorney General. Any suggestions?

If he wasn’t abusive, call 60 minutes!
That is awful. |

Sounds like he's in a for profit hospital.

What's the point paying for insurance if one can't use it....
There's a lot of unethical decisions made. Don't ever work at that hospital group...

Texas attorney general is a good bet.
Is there someone who can be there with him? If there were, then they would have to deal with more than just some guy with tumors and pain meds. A witness, at least. A woman would be my pick. One who cares. Shirley McLain. The LAST place this guy should be is in the ER of a hospital that has no skin in the game. I guess I'm not being very helpful, since you know all that.

He has a head full of opiates and they are asking him to sign a legal form. People are more likely to fall asleep than be combative. I see a large settlement in the future for his widow
nope, but thanks for playing

Tell him to check into the hospital next door just before his opiates run out. He's not long for this world so some big legal circus is a very low priority for him...
The soon-to-be-widow should be saving everything and anything and getting as much in writing as possible. |

They discharged him and put him in a cab with instructions to take him home. Cab broke down 3 miles from home, he walked the rest of the way. Next day, he went to a better hospital and they are taking care of him. Started him on chemo within 24 hours, which is pretty wild.
First hospital is going to be getting up close and personal with the Attorney General, if I have anything to do with it.

Plan is radiation and chemo, out and F/U as out patient with home health nurse visits soon as they can make it happen. It has to be stage 4, with all that entails. My wife says he had sinus problems from when he was a kid. Coincidence, or chariots of the gods?
I think he is 52, my youngest grandkid was not even born when I was 52.
