Captain, it’s great to get some inside perspective here! I’ve been an F1 fan since a kid in the 70’s and loved the engineering side as much or more than the driving.
I was so excited the first time Steve Machett was on Speedvision that I immediately sent them an email saying what a great addition he was to the broadcast team. Imagine my excitement when I found out Steve also wrote about his F1 experience! |
Wow, just wow!!
Now we know, congratulations in all your success! Yes please stick around to 500 ;) |
Poor Perez. First he gets outqualified by Ricciardo in an Alpha Tauri. Then crashes while Daniel finishes super respectably. I do not see him digging his way out of this anymore, he's mentally destroyed..
Someone said "the rumors were true, Perez retired in Mexico" - ouch |
Having grown up in Santa Monica, home of Phil Hill the first American F1 Champion, I wanted to be a race car driver in the worst way ever since being little. Following F1 way back in the early '60's was a pain as only Wide World of Sports would cover it and that was only the big races.
While the cars of today are super fast, they just don't hold the interest for me now days. I guess I was attracted to the 'risk' factor of the old cars. When they changed the track configuration at Monaco it was kind of like 'why?'. I got a kick out of seeing the 'in car' shots that the Sky coverage showed during the broadcast last weekend. Kids today just don't know how lucky they are to be able to see that perspective. Captain, you've led an interesting life, thanks for sharing it with us here. |
I guess like many the bleeding edge technology is what hooks me. I honestly can't imagine pulling 5G in braking and nearly that much in corners for an entire race.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698780754.jpg The Mercedes V6 Hybrid Formula One engine, is a series of 1.6-liter, hybrid turbocharged V6 racing engines which features both a kinetic energy recovery system (MGU-K) and a heat energy recovery system (MGU-H), developed and produced by Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains for use in Formula One. The engines were in use since the 2014 season by the Mercedes works team. Over years of development, engine power was increased from 840 horsepower at 15,000 rpm, to 1,070 horsepower at 15,000 rpm. Customer team engines were used by Williams, McLaren, Lotus, Manor Racing, Force India, Racing Point Force India, Racing Point and Aston Martin. And this is the 9 year old tech! |

However, Horner says Perez will race for Red Bull in 2024 when his contract is finished. Things do change though. |

Marko was even worse: "his start was great" (the end) |
I don’t know why Perez would want to put himself through another year of this. Yes there’s the money, but he has a lot of that already. I can’t imagine the pressure and frustration he’s been dealing with.

So I thought I was picked for F&C for Vegas, but it turns out I will be an “intervention marshal”. Me thinks that is a glorified track janitor. :D We shall see.

Brawn documentary on Hulu, looks good.

During Practice Logan Sergeant was driving like a 911, on three wheels! He had some rear suspension issue and went through a long corner on three wheels. Hopefully they got it fixed before the qualifying. |
Well mother nature didn't play well during Q3 . It should be an interesting race .
|
Yea, that much rain will wash off the rubber, and they will have a new green track.

Stroll did well, hope he does something with that 3rd place.
|
Woops ! You don't see this very often . Glad no one was hurt .

The Ocon/Alonso accident in Sprint qualifying could have been really ugly.
|
A take away from today's race
1. Max is terrific
2. Lando is getting closer 3. Mark Weber could be next 007 4. Machine Gun Kelly is a super jerk, wired-up and crazy, wouldn't give him time of day. 5. What was MGK doing there anyway? |
Perez making more friends on his team.

Man, Lando is really impressive this year. I like that he tells it like it is, good or bad, and looks semi-disappointed finishing second.. Does that Red bull engine EVER break ? once ? If Max did not exist, this season would have been one the most interesting in memory. Then again you can say that of a lot of dominated seasons. I bet Norris must feel like all those great WRC drivers that happen to compete during the Loeb/Ogier 15 year domination.
Fernando Alonso, what can you say? I hope he never leaves. And quite honestly, look at Stroll ! Not bad ! The rich kid passed Hamilton on track. None of us can say that. |
Poor Charles. To have his car lock up on the way to the grid. Not the first time, either. I wonder if Ferrari have forgotten they should have two cars in each race.
Best Les |

The finish was exciting for the battle for 3rd. With 4 hundredths of a second between 3rd and 4th.
Next up is Vegas. No doubt they will pull out all the stop, and have a crazy presentation and scene, hopefully the race will go off as planned around all the hoopla. |

#5. What was MGK doing there anyway? To be seen of course. And he was seen by a way larger audience then he will ever preform in front of and he came across like the 98lb azzhat that he really is. F1 has really upped their game on the broadcast side of things, most of it is entertaining except the celebrity interviews, haven't seen 1 yet where the celeb was a real fan and had something worth while saying. I can easily do without the "beautiful people" Q: What's the similarity between modern music and candy bars? A: It's all good but throw the rapper's away.SmileWavy |
How dominate is Max ? When Hamilton crossed the finish line he was a minute behind Max !!!! Just unbelievable . Congrats to Aston Martin . The commentators said AM went back to a " pre upgrade " chassis setup and look at the results .
|
On the grid walk whenever he walks up to some "celebrity" I have never heard of, I fast forward. I could not care less about some "footballer, or tennis player" that has no clue about F1, or a singer and as soon as the walked towards the goofy looking dude in the yellow outfit, I hit fast forward so I missed the "interview" and I am happy about it. I did see the Serena Williams security team block any access. I was under the impression anyone on the F1 grid was obligated to talk on camera for an quick interview.
Bernie was pretty funny, what tax problem? I am sure his accountants just wrote a check from petty cash account. |
^^^ I enjoy the grid walk interviews when Martin talks to drivers and team personnel . As soon as he heads towards a celebrity or sports person I mentally zone out . It doesn't matter if it's a rapper/tennis star/actor/soccer player or whatever . To me you bring no knowledge or added value other than look at me . Yawn
|
|
Wow, you guys are harsh. Who are you to determine if a celebrity doesn't know as much about F1 as you? What ever. They are there to enjoy just as much as anyone else.

That is just my very limited understanding. I may be way off base, but that is what Martin Brundle has said. |

Machine Gun Kelly is a mega fan, that is a mega fan of himself, was only there to be seen
Great to see AMF1 and Alonso back on the podium, perfect display of defensive driving against a faster car Looking at the championship positions going into the last 2 races, still much to fight for McLaren in 4th place only 21 points ahead of AMF1 Alonso, Norris and Sainz only separated by 6 points Perez might just get away with 2nd place in the drivers championship Can Redbull Honda beat the McLaren Honda most wins in a season % set way back in 1988? |
It had to kill Hamiliton to get passed by Perez.
It looks like Redbull may for the first time have first and second place drivers in points at the end of the year. |

0.053 seconds apart. Many laps of great racing. |
^This is what I was referring to about Perez making friends in Red Bull. The team can’t be happy with him losing a podium spot.
I learned my marshal assignment is turn 17. |

This is a fluff piece of the TAG-Turbo F1 engine in a 911. An actual race used, by Nicki Lauda, F1 engine, detuned a bit, but in a road going 911. Unfortunately almost no real technical info on the engine, and a lot about the company's conversing of race cars to street use by people with really deep pockets. Interesting for the general information, but little or no tech info. |
Good article, discussing the relationship Max and his engineer have...
https://www.planetf1.com/news/gianpiero-lambiase-biggest-fear-max-verstappen-treatment |
I've started watching ^ her videos. She's not a great interviewer but she has great interview subjects. I especial like her hour long interview with Gordon Murray.
