Don’t get your hopes up with today’s F1. They banned grid girls.

Exactly. If there are no grid girls then show girls are likely out too. On the other hand though... they've had the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders in Austin the past several years, so who knows.

herr_oberst 05-17-2023 04:49 AM

Imola cancelled due to threats of flooding. No word yet if it will be rescheduled.

URY914 05-17-2023 05:06 AM

Well that sucks.

Nah I bet they can do it so long as it's in the context of a "show", like a performance during the pre-race, and not just eye candy standing around. Like the cheerleaders in Austin were part of a show but they didn't just stand around holding signs, did they?

Not likely, given how packed the schedule is. When Liberty tries to cram 23 races onto the calendar, there aren't a lot of open spaces left for make-up dates.

Eric Hahl 05-22-2023 02:45 PM

Meanwhile at Ferrari...

^ hahaha, good one.. ok that was last year, Not under Vasseur. MOre likely water ingress in the KERS and shortcircuit.

Announcement tomorrow that Honda will supply Aston-Martin from 2026 to 2030.

What's with the rumors that Lewis is heading to Ferrari ? Is that just postering to seal a deal with Mercedes ? One of the F1 websites is saying a Charles/Lewis swap could happen .

red 928 05-23-2023 11:44 AM

Hamilton needs to get out of Mercedes
before he ends up as their #2 driver.
But if he does go to Ferrari, he will fail there.

Leclerc is screwing up because he is trying to
drive a slow car really fast.
Same mistake that mick made at Williams.
Put him in a fast car and he will be fast.

Put hamilton in a Ferrari and he will look like Bottas.

Really hope this happens

Honda is a legend among automotive companies that go racing and the Aston Martin team have ambitious plans with a strong technical leadership

Will be interesting to see if Alonso is part of the plan if Honda have forgiven him for his unkind remarks during the I'll fated Honda McLaren partnership

Will Alonso still be around in 2026?

As a driver, I very much doubt it

"GP2! GP2!"

"Never have I raced with such little power!"

Those comments weren't directed to me, and I still remember them. No doubt Honda does.

Worse than Robby Gordon stomping on the Ford logo on his IndyCar's engine cowling after a motor blew up.

Captain Ahab Jr 05-24-2023 12:42 AM

Official, Honda back in F1 from 2026

It is not surprising.

They had an embarrassingly bad, under-powered engine that often went kerblamo. They pulled out to save further shame. The engine was developed further with more engineers and lots more money. Now it is the class of the field, and better than the Mercedes powerplant. Might as well come back and share the glory. Hopefully for them, in 2026 they are still winning. If Ferrari can ever figure out race strategy, and Mercedes figure out aerodynamics, they may have a real battle on their hands 3 years from now.

Is Audi still entering the fray with a new engine and chassis? And of course the Americans with Cadillac might actually get to play.

CurtEgerer 05-24-2023 07:19 AM

Anyone else find it disconcerting that Aston Martin (an automobile manufacturer who manufacture their own road engines) are powered by M-B now and Honda in the future? At least do it on the down low and slap some Aston Martin valve covers on it if you're not capable of doing your own! I know, I'm a purist

GH85Carrera 05-24-2023 07:30 AM

Daddy Stroll only bought Aston Martin so his son would have a ride in F1. He only cares about his boy racing in F1, and he wants to win. I presume Honda made a better deal and he figures Honda will be a better powerplant than Mercedes.

I'm with you.

I don't mind it when its a privateer like Williams that doesn't build road cars. But when you already make engines...

No moreso than a tobacco brand like Philip Morris sponsoring a car using a weird slogan like Mission Winnow - two words that mean absolutely nothing (to me) but are obviously being used to somehow influence people in ways that I can only guess the how and why.

Eric Hahl 05-24-2023 11:54 AM

^ were they on a mission, to win now?

herr_oberst 05-24-2023 12:07 PM

^ It's not working.

Eric Hahl 05-24-2023 12:32 PM

^lol

Noah930 05-24-2023 05:06 PM

There was a t-shirt last year from Blipshift, styled to look like the Mission Winnow logo/script. Except it read Missing Winning.

In FP1 this morning Albon smacked the wall and tore up the left side of the chassis . Big cars on tiny track doesn't leave much room for error.

Several drivers discovered that. I would love to have a ride in truly fast car around that track with a driver that can keep it off the wall. It is just amazing to see 150 MPH on that track.

I wish I had a some mega millionaire friends to invite me to hang out on the yacht in the marina and watch the race. Alas, I have no such friends. If I won the Powerball lottery, I will rent a yacht like that and invite the Pelican gang to hang with me, all expenses paid. My odds might go up a little tiny bit if I ever bought a lottery ticket.

herr_oberst 05-27-2023 04:37 AM

I'll bet this is the most heavily examined photo in the F1 team offices today. Toto is probably tearing his hair out over this.

And now Horner/Newey are grinding their teeth after Checo wrecks and his car is on aerial display .

Noah930 05-27-2023 06:18 AM

No one's got a broom in Monaco?!

rfuerst911sc 05-27-2023 07:52 AM

That was quite the battle for pole . Congrats to the winner . Nice to see some different names up there fighting near the top . Unfortunately tomorrow will be follow the leader .

Unless it's really high tide, IDT you will see much from a boat.

yellowperil 05-27-2023 09:55 AM

Well, ya might see some hot chicks, near or on the yacht, but who would want that.

I seem to recall a million years ago, possibly on ABC Wide World of Sports broadcast of Monaco GP, they were scanning the yachts and there sat a topless woman. Now we can't even have grid girls.

Yup, not quite what I wanted. Lap 1 could be interesting.

GH85Carrera 05-27-2023 01:37 PM

Wow, great qualifying!

Lots of amazing driving.

yellowperil 05-27-2023 01:55 PM

I hope the race lives up to the quali . The cars are very fast and just like Indy (fast also) there seems to be lots of wall bangin'. Almost too fast.

Deschodt 05-27-2023 02:18 PM

I’ve watched F1 for 40 years and this was probably the most exciting qualifying session I’ve ever seen! Man I hope it rains tomorrow and that scrambles things !
And Ocon 3rd now !! Wow !

Reg 05-27-2023 04:51 PM

Alonso will be a beast tomorrow. 50/50 the top two are gone by end of first lap.
