Why do they let them work on the cars during a red flag?
Makes no sense to me. No changing tires and no repairs would make things a little more reasonable and maybe the goons would be more careful. But that wouldn't make for good TV, would it? A long, long time ago I was a fan of the NBA. Then one day I realized I didn't have to watch the entire game, just the last minute of it (which BTW took 15 minutes to play). Playing well during the game and building up a big lead was wasted effort, by design the game would effectively negate the lead with all the time-outs, clock stoppages, etc. F1 has unfortunately taken that same ignorant path. |

Now should you be able to change compound ? Car repairs ? I'm in agreement with you, probably not. Also I find the standing restart gimmicky and it tends to cause more red flags. Restart single file, that's close enough ! |
Ahh, memory lane.

What a long time with no racin'. The drivers will be old men when they get goin' again!!
|
Yea, it seems weird to start so early, and then have a "spring break" for so long.

I feel like an old man so looking forward to relaxing and watching next weekends race |

We just want to see the race on track. |

It never stops...if you stop or even pause for a few days you get left behind :( it's hard just maintaining position and incredibly hard/almost impossible to catch teams in front of you Every team is busy designing/manufacturing areodynamic/mechanical updates for this seasons races Also being worked on in parallel is the design of next year's car and even simulating/laying out the design as far ahead as the new regulation 2026 cars Sadly for the fans I don't think any team would agree to a behind the scenes Netflix type show, it would cost them too much of a competitive advantage |

Your point about a daily pause even making a difference is eye opening. |
Geezus. I doubt if the apology and sacking will fend off a hefty lawsuit from the family.
Seems we're going to have to be reminded of this tragedy on a fairly regular basis. I can't imagine what his wife goes through. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-23/magazine-apologises-schumacher-ai-interview-sacks-editor/102257394 |

The problem I have with it is one driver pits a lap or two before SC or VSC or Red Flag. They get penalized, especially on Red Flag, when all competitors get to change tires without having a 20+ second pit stop and remain in their position above the unlucky sod that pitted under green flag. This break has really sucked. I've been pretty ambivalent recently about the races and this isn't helping. |

I thought a month long break was goofy then heard it was cause the Chinese GP was cancelled, made more sense but a lot of teams needed this break. Maybe things will be closer mid pack and maybe some changes up front too.
I'm looking for Lance to do something, the wrist should be a non-issue, lots of experience, finally a decent car, it's time to earn your ride or step aside. IMO |
I wonder if Alonso dating Taylor Swift will screw up his championship run? Lol
|
Tost is retiring form alpha Tauri... Will be replaced by Laurent Mekies (ex Ferrari) - the one that looks like a musketeer ;-)
|
Not a joke.. the boy is a talented piano player !
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1682610597.jpg Maybe he can use the proceeds to buy some over the cap engineering for his Ferrari ! |

I flew out of Houston on Monday and almost every girl I saw had a Taylor Swift T-shirt or sweatshirt on from the weekend's concerts. I can't imagine how much money she brings in. |
|
I really like Carlos Sainz overall, but 0.8 behind his team mate ? give it up man, you are #2.
|
Charles is my man.
Even if he has race pace, it will be impossible to defend against the Red Bull magic drs. I hate drs. A lot. |
Really I'm not a fan of having F1 Sprint Races, just seems like a needless, exoensive distraction for the drivers and teams
Wasn't anything like a Sprint, seemed half a race at best  What gimick will F1@Netfix.con come up with next, divide Sunday race into quarters or 7 innings :D |
I am totally confused. I saw one practice, then an old school conventional F1 qualifying. Then ESPN decided to show men fighting, I think it was basketball or hockey, but sure not the F1 second Qualifying that I really don't understand??? Then we got to watch a sprint race, and some points awarded, but the winner starts in P3 for tomorrows race. WTF, were the rules guys on toking on some really good weed and laughing and saying left make qualifying a total guessing game.
I still have no idea how they selected the starting positions for the actual race. I guess tomorrow I will see how it goes. I sure hope the druggies in charge of this are all fired, and we go back to the standard three practices, conventional qualifying, and a normal race. And maybe someday ESPN will stop showing corn hole games, and a bunch of talking heads talking about how they watched other grown men playing a kids game with a ball, and how that made them feel. |
Max is a baby.

Pretty boring race but happy for the winner .
|
I wonder what Ocon thought when he pulled into pit lane and saw a wall of reporters blocking his entry . Very fortunate no one was hurt . I am sure that debacle is under review .

Slightly off the current topic,
Have an offer. I am a marshal at Miami F1 and for that they provide one general admission ticket. I have offered it to my friends in the SW and on the West Coast but no takers. So I thought I would see if a pelican would like to use it. I am not quite sure how I will get it. Assume at checkin on Wednesday. Hotel is the Westin Ft Lauderdale. Figure I could leave it with the front desk. If someone wants the ticket, please pm me. I will take the requests in order I receive them. |
^Thats very generous! Congrats on getting a marshal gig.
Todays race was yawner. Fred made it somewhat interesting by closing on LeClerc. No red flags though, so thats a positive. |
One of the tracks that is only interesting is there is a yellow or red flag, and then it comes down to the luck of track position when the flag it thrown.
It was funny to see the rear wheel of Max's car at the finish, and see the scratches and abrasions from brushing the wall. And many other drivers clipped or bounced off of the wall. I just can't imaging pushing so hard that I slide withing milometers of the wall. No need to enforce tack limits with a white line when the wall does that. |

Ho hum, Indy race was the winner this weekend
|
I got a chuckle from the Aston Martin radio calls.
Stroll to his engineer when he was running a half second behind Alonso. "Tell Fernando I will not attack. " Alonso 's response, "He can have a go, if he wants." Later, when Lance was falling back,"Tell Lance to try my balance settings." Sort of like running with your big brother. Best Les |
Will try this one more time.
I have a general admission ticket for Miami F1 that I receive as part of being a marshal. If a pelican wants it, please reply. See my entry above |
Friend of mine got himself 2 VIP tix for Vegas - $8000 each ! Is F1 jumping the shark right now ?
I hear that The hotels figured out ways to block the view for whoever is not paying thru the nose... Makes the above offer for a miami ticket all the more generous ! Best car thing this w/e was... Luftgekuhlt ! |
Since the first race in Austin, the local hotel rates go up 400% or more over normal. The Miami and Las Vegas F1 races will be just more of the same, rape the attendees for every penny possible.

This past weekend (Saturday) I was working on one of our fleet of Land Rovers when a cousin called asking if I wanted to go to the coast and fly fish Sunday. Yes sir, I got skunked but still had a great time. I didn't even miss not seeing the race. I watched a replay late Sunday evening. Ho hum. The Miami and Lost Wages races aren't helping my waning interest. |

These FPs are not proving the track to be any better than it was last year. One line makes for a boring Sunday…
