Smart move by a 7th grader on school bus

His father said he did not have a cellphone to distract him so he was watching the driver when it started.

That young man was excellent.

"I don't care, someone call 911". Perfect.

Great kid. Take control when the adults are not in charge. Do the right thing.

If I had to wager, it would be that his parents are solid people who have imparted a keen sense of "do-the-right-thing" on their son.

Great job, kid!

Wow, nice catch from the kid. Although it sounded like several kids realized what was happening.

It's kind of crazy that the bus driver realized that something was wrong, but didn't stop right away. I guess there's a difference between "feeling dizzy" and knowing that you're about to be unresponsive.

Come to think of it, that could have been me. (driving while dizzy, not the seizure/attack/whatever that occurred in this instance)

Many years ago, I was leaving work, and when I got out of the elevator on the ground floor, I turned left and immediately felt a little dizzy. I drove home like that. I'm fairly certain now that my abrupt turn out of the elevator probably gave me benign positional vertigo. But driving home like that was really dumb, and, IIRC, my wife told me that when I got home.

Although the TV news had a shorter video with no audio, they interviewed his parents ....

They were proud, proud, proud!

And should be

I think there are far more kids like him that are aware beyond expectations than people realize.

Society points out the "squeaky wheels" and the great ones go unnoticed...until they act in a responsible manner. And even then, they don't always get recognized.

It's the "bad apple" adage. Great kids are everywhere. My son is 23, and many of his friends from his teen years were...uh...lets just say not the best. As I get to know them better now, I can see mature, motivated adults making their mark in life.

Bunch of little screaming babies and one kid with a head on his shoulders. I wonder what the 911 dispatcher thought of that. I didn't follow the link but I hope the driver is OK.

Quick thinking kid...deserves a lot of praise.

Thinking back to when I was a 7th grader on the school bus....I remember a couple different situations.

One winter morning the lady driver was turning the bus around and backed too far into a snow bank and got it stuck. No one had cell phones then, so one of the kids hiked over to his fathers farm and came back with a tractor and pulled us out. (likely never see that happen again.)

The other thing I remember....a friend of mine and myself got into a fist fight and were thrown off the bus for the rest of the season. My parents were not pleased.

Filming for YouTube? I know it's pretty popular for city people to come to my lake and when they catch a fish they freak for the camera. Can hear it for miles.

They are only 7th graders.
With all that's happened to school kids in the last few years....I'm not surprised they screamed.
