How does a clothes drying machine work?

Sometimes when I think the clothes should be dry...I check and they are, but the dryer is running and blowing cold air?
Shouldn't it stop when they are dry....it's not a coin operated machine.

KC's link was useless for my dryer.

Pretty simple. There is a drum turned by a belt and motor. An air blower. A heating element. Cycle select knobs and a puter to activate the previous. Some might have humidity sensors,
Blowing cold air at the end is the 'cool down' cycle to fluff the clothes. Livi is the expert to ask. He's a pro.

Of course if the vent is blocked by lint then air doesn't go through at all.

Wow, you guys make it complicated. Just throw the dirty clothes in the hamper, they come back clean, dry, and hanging in the closet.

^^^ 'throw in the hamper' reminds me of the house we grew up in. It had an upstairs clothes chute that was joined by the main floor and then emptied into a hamper in the basement.
The washer and dryer were right at the bottom.

I don't see many homes with those anymore.

I don't know, but if Porsche made one, you would have to load the clothes from the back side, and it would leak oil .
m not sure where I heard that quote , but it always made me laugh. Jeremy Clarkson maybe ?

Some dryers have a no heat option for the last 5-10 minutes for consumer comfort.

I have a fear of them. I was only 5 or 6 years old and my 6 year older brother would always threaten to stuff me down it head first.
I think it was only 10X10 but large enough to get your head in and look down...way down.

Most dryers have an available cool down cycle. Some fabrics set wrinkles if the dryer shuts off and lets them sit in a rumpled pile while they're still hot, so choose the cool down cycle for those fabrics.

My grandmother would preach for hours- place the bed sheets on the outer perimeter, and the underwear in the center.
