Come on, he is 19. Before age 22 absolutely every time I tried a friend's motorbike I headed to the freeway to go as fast as I could. Memories of being super stupid. Just about lost it on a vfr750. I stopped riding motorbikes when I was 22 because I became mature enough to realize I couldn't control myself.

But those 50-60 year olds were also previously 17-25 idiots....

There's a reason car insurance is HIGH for those 17-25 year old idiots...history has proven the statistical risks inherent in that group. And when things go bad, they go REAL bad.

Hopefully, Milo Schneider will learn a lesson here without anyone being hurt. I'd be curious to find out what his punishment will be.

Yep, idiot 17 year olds, continues into their 20's. Que the old guy stories, way back in day! My buddy and I (both about 17) had his Jag 150 he got from a cousin for $750. going 140 MPH indicated on a slight downhill when the classic 55 MPH Ford being passed by a 58 MPH Chevy happened in front of us. We were approaching in the passing lane behind the Chevy. Stand on the 4 wheel disc brakes and some how we missed the Chevy This made a lifelong impression on me about ***** like this. Best part was later we learned all the tires were retreads, good retreads I mused.. I don't even know if retreads are still done today.
Anyway, cars have more potential for high speeds than ever and 17 years old is still 17 years old. |

Metabolism affects how all living things perceive time. The higher the metabolism the slower the world appears to move. All mammals have roughly the same number of heartbeats in a lifetime, ~1 Billion Meaning a field mouse which has a calendar life span of roughly a year experiences about 75 years of equivalent human life in that one year. Younger people have higher metabolisms than adults or old farts like us. The world moves slower for them them than it does for us which is why our reaction times seem to get worse as we age, everything is moving just a bit faster for us. That field mouse is hard to catch because to it we look like we are moving in slow motion. So 150 in a car is a different perceived experience for younger people. |
It's amazing any of us that grew up as true gearheads survived our youth. I was fortunate(?) enough to start driving at the end of the early '70's gas crunch, when everyone was selling off their late '60's muscle cars. My first car was a '67 GTO. After that, I switched to MOPARs, and went through a bunch of them. Every single one of those cars achieved whatever its top speed was with me behind the wheel.
The high point was when I found myself behind the wheel of a friend's 1970 Super Bird. Yes, with a Hemi. The real deal. I buried its 150 mph speedometer with 1,500 rpm left on the tach, and redlined it from there. No idea how fast that must have been. Stupid as hell. I was 19. At 62 years old, though, I have yet to be able to make myself feel bad about that. |
