There is a company that imports them, and converts them to left hand drive, but they are really pricey.

Chevy has said a few times they would reintroduce it and make a concept car, and they never make it to production.

This spring my wife wanted to go to several plant nurseries to pick up mulch, border edging, and plants. At evey venue the crew helping load the mulch, topsoil or whatever, the employees all complimented on it.

Not just another generic pickup or SUV.

I always liked these. The one with the bigger motor would be fun, and I think they're going up in value now.

Several years ago one of those hot rod Holdens passed through the Port of Long Beach while my wife was still working. She told me to come down and take a look. It was on its way to SEMA. It looked very cool but the keys were no where to be found.

That's unusual down there as the keys are always with the cars. However, whenever the expensive Mercedes was driven off the RoRo ship it was parked in a special place, the place where the Holden was. Strict assess and next to the security office.

Mercedes is headquartered in LB and we get thousands of them. One Holden. I saw a lot of cool cars over time, many outbound for Australia.

It was good enough for Gene Hackman in Enemy of the State, so it must be good.

Those things tried to be too many things and failed at all of them. They are HUGE and the complex convertible top must be a nightmare now days. They just missed all the marks they aimed for. And they are ugly to boot. The PT Cruiser level of ugly.

It is the only important opinion for what I am gonna buy for me! It is just an opinion, others can have their own opinion. That is what is great about America, opinions are free.

You are welcome to buy whatever you want with your money.

When those things were new I was at the Chevy dealership buying parts for my Elky. They had one in the showroom. I actually stopped and looked, and a salesman demonstrated some of the features. He wanted me to trade in my Elky so he could drive it, and resell it.

It's when people state their opinion as fact or truth that I get a little annoyed. When I state my opinion, I try to make it clear it's my opinion, like when I say "I always liked these." Facts are objective; opinions are subjective.

I'm curious what's fairly ironic for you, Tobra.

Easy guys, leave the snide remarks to me.

I don't think the concept was bad at all. As with the new T-Bird and others, the execution missed by a wide mark (or is that margue?).

Anyone will great fab skills could take the corporate poison out of that and make a hell of a hot rod. Same with all of them. IIRC, Chip Fosse did a T-Bird and although it was still basically a T-Bird, it was much better.

So what's on the list besides the
T-Bird
HHR
SSR
Prowler
?

All non sellers in the end.

Well, the new Beatle has had a good run thanks to Freeman Thomas and Jay Mays.

If GM had kept making them, and made one in left hand drive, and kept the price reasonable, they likely would have stolen sales from the regular pickups.

The El Camino's last year was 1987. There are rumors that a few were sold and titled as an 88, but none have been verified. We had an active El Camino club for years. There were many rather beat up ones, a few show cars with more 30K paint jobs, and monster engines, and Corvette suspension that had insane money dumped on them, and the owner would not drive them anymore as they were too nice. Then they sold them for pennies on the dollar invested.

El Camino Central is a forum that has been active for years, and has some great members.

Mine is just my daily driver. Not a show car at all, but really nice for a 37 year old vehicle with 380,000 miles. The cruise control module is acting up, and I need to get it rebuilt again. Otherwise everything is in perfect working order, as good as new, or often much better than original.

I used to sell PT Cruisers when they came out. Most of the dealers in the area were $5,000 over MSRP. We were at $3,000 and sold almost all of them before they came in. As the fleet manager, I go more than my fair share (I ordered them, too). Nice little $1,700 commissions for 2001-2002. Then Chrysler figured out how to make too many and that thing suddenly was being sold for $2,000 below invoice. It cooled off fast. The looks were different and fun, but they got old fast. I heard the nickname for the HHR internally at GM was the "Me too cruiser." We tried to sell our first Prowler for around $99,000. It sat and we got $60-something.

I like the nose of the SSR the best. To me, it's a factory restomod. I think if the tops of the fenders were more rounded it would look a lot better.

The New Beetle was a huge success and put VW dealers in the black big time.

Retro cars are cool when done right. Less severe examples include the Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro. Braver examples were the Fiat 500, Ford GT, BMW Z8 maybe. I'm sure there's lots more. I wish BMW would do a modern take on a 2002.

The new VW bug was marketed hard to women. Has any other car ever, come with a flower vase on the dash? My back fence neighbors have one, and it is the wife's car. She loves it.
