i haven't been paying attention. was the a black box on the sub that could be recovered? seems that would answer most of these questions.

I was going to provide info I’ve read online, but everything I’ve read so far about a black box seems to be that the world is still wondering if Titan had one. Based on everything else that was lacking (testing, solid comms, permits) they should just come out and admit they didn’t have a black box. Absolute Mickey Mouse show.

LOL! It sounds like he did his "due negligence" or maybe "due ignorance."

This reminds me of the story of Abraham Wald, the mathemetician from WWII and the shot-up military aircraft and survivorship bias.

Yeah, I got a chuckle out of that statement, too. Let me ask a bunch of customers who don't really have knowledge on building super deep sea submursibles about the safety of this experimental super deep sea submersible.

Those are certainly the best folks to ask.

...
"oh, by the way. Was there a catastrophic failure of the sub on your trip or did you make it back ok?"

I'm thinking he didn't call enough people or maybe he should have waited until after this most recent trip and called those folks.

if stockton rush wanted to push actual boundaries, he could have invented new ways to inspect carbon fiber structures to measure their strength. he could have invented new modeling techniques to understand and mathematically model the effects on composite materials. he could have had the sub properly tested and classed, and convinced the world that he was right.

he didnt.

he was a cheap moron selling 'innovation' to moron billionaires

and for people who were paying attention, he told on himself constantly. even oceangates marketing materials openly proclaim stuff that is telling on yourself.

So there must be leftover Oceangate sub and support boat that are on the dry in Beaufort, North Carolina. Or someone is posting old pics and passing them off as new. Or??????

I would think OceanGate wouldn’t really want another specimen available for inspection. If the photo is current and another sub exists, their problems just got worse.

Still connected to the sub controller and all high scores remain intact.

We've been commenting on how ridiculous using the game controller is, but I honestly have more faith in a robust design in the hands of millions of users worldwide than OceanGate.

the game control is not even a real flaw in the design. the military and plenty of other organizations use them to control subs, drones, etc, and for good reason. they are designed with speed, comfort and reliability in mind, and well tested. plus most users are pretty familiar with them these days, so you save on training too.

there is nothing really funny about the game controller thing. all the insanity in the titan was the other ... stuff

I agree.

In the drone world game controllers are the standard for many, many reasons. I tried almost 20 years ago to make game controllers the standard for Navy UAS.

Once you get crushed by your eight year old playing a "game" (all drones are essentially first person shooter games) it begins to make sense.

We also did a lot of work with NATO on standardizing ground control station interfaces to enable game controllers.

Kids know and they don't look at the controller.
