Is it too much…

To say thank you:

When I hold the door for someone.

When I let a car merge in traffic.

When…

If they don't say 'thank you'....just tell them 'you're welcome!'

I find myself saying "Thank you !" to young women who hold doors open for me. I suspect I remind them of their grandfathers.

Do the common courtesies because its the right thing-- if it
makes you feel good .

Generally I've found the response is positive. If it doesn't --don't.

Many are self-absorbed.

You see it in parking lots - those who push their shopping cart up into a landscape bed.

When it would only take a minute to return it.

A lot of it just boils down to upbringing.....

Yea, I have that as well. Young kids or teenage girls holding the door open for me. I do always say thank you.

Yes it does. Mr. Maschinsky was the owner of the five-and-dime store in town when I was a kid. He always asked me to call him "Matt." I just couldn't do it.

Another story: My buddy's son's HS coach told him he thought the son was maybe being a smartass. Buddy asked for more info. Coach said son calls him "Sir." Buddy told coach that his son chose from three options. 'Mr. Hanson." "Coach." Or "Sir." Son simply chose the latter.

A simple thank you when anyone does anything for you. That includes 'its part of their job'.
Saying "Thank You" is right up there with:
"I made a mistake"
"I was wrong"
"You mean a lot to me"

And something I only say to a select few "I thought about you today".

What people do with that is their business not mine. What people think of me is none of my business.

Thank you.

I’ve had that happen a few times. I always say, thank you and sometimes I get back a yes sir. Makes me feel older than I am. 😂

Ha! I’ve said you’re welcome a few times and gotten funny looks.

I do things because it’s the right thing to do. I know I should not expect anything in return, but occasionally an acknowledgment is nice.

When waiting to merge or someone to let me in traffic, I was roll down my window, so they can see me and I wave thank you.

Saying the magic words. "Please" and "Thank you" was what I was raised on.

My flight from LA to Papeete in '03 was with Air New Zealand. Every member of the flight crew included a "Please" and "Thank you" when speaking. Including to each other.

In sales, I learned that everyone is a customer. Even your co-workers.

I enjoy being polite.

It's the legacy left to me by Mom and Dad.
