I remember watching that show when I was a kid. And I remember seeing David crop up in some The Outer Limits episodes, too.

I wonder if his character gave Gene Roddenberry any inspiration to cast Walter Koenig as Ensign Chekov in Star Trek. I know part of it was to illustrate a united earth in the future and to pull in some younger fans with a Monkees-type of character. I don't know if there was a recurring Russian character before Illya.

Roddenberry in the mid-seventies I think was going around all the universities giving a short presentation followed by an extensive Q&A.

Blooper reels, out-takes, blah blah.

Gene laughed a lot, I remember. And such grace from a visionary who knew he was a visionary.

The opening theme of Star Trek and ‘Star Date xxxxx’ was a lock on me and also my first glimpse of Relativity.

Ilya inspired me to start wearing turtleneck shirts all the time. I still wear them under a sport jacket for casual sharp evenings.

RIP David

The cold war spy TV shows of the 60's were the best. Trenchcoat sells must have gone through the roof back then. I had a toy camera that turned into a gun and a toy radio that turned into a rifle. Get Smart, Mission Impossible, The Saint. So campy but I watched one on youtube recently and they were so bad in the production department.

This. Along with the Beatles it was a fun time to be heading into Junior High School.
