And you thought you were having a bad day....

what about this lady.....

ATLANTA (AP) — A homeowner is mulling the next step after a company mistakenly demolished a home she owned in southwest Atlanta.

Susan Hodgson said in an interview Saturday with The Associated Press that she found a pile of rubble in place of what used to be her longtime family property when she returned from vacation last month.

“It’s just hard to believe someone thinks they have the right to just come and tear something up and walk away from it and didn’t come back and say ‘I’m sorry. What do I need to do to fix this? It was an accident.’ They didn’t give me nothing."

It could have been much worse.

That was not her primary residence. It had been a vacant property.

I’m not saying it wasn’t bad because it was. I’m saying it wasn’t catastrophic. Her nor her family’s lives weren’t wiped out.

I had some guys knock on the door one day, said they were there to tear up the concrete walkway leading from the sidewalk to the front door. We were renting then. I told them I had no idea what they were talking about. They called their boss. Turns out they had written down the wrong address. I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't been home.

I came home from work back when I commuted to work to find my yard had been fertilized. I found a bill taped to the front door. I called the guy and said I would not insist he vacuum up the fertilizer, but I did not need my yard fertilized. I had done it a month before. He was supposed to do my neighbors yard. I had to water and mow like crazy that summer.

The company probably ended up doing her a favor based on the pile of "lumber" in the picture. That looks like remnants from a collapsed barn - not a house.

OK, reading the article clears a lot of stuff up. It's still clearly a huge issue, but not as big as it seemed.

1 The property was boarded up and had been for 15 years.
2 My first thought was "sue the company that tore it down, surely they've got insurance," but the name of the company is "You Call It We Haul It" which does not sound like the sort of place that would definitely have insurance.
3 The guy onsite had a permit for another location, but not that one, sounds to me like this should be a slam-dunk once they figure out the direction to go. My guess is that a civil suit for damages would be won, but they'd probably never see any money. It almost seems like it should be criminal, but that would probably also not result in any money changing hands. I feel like these folks are probably just screwed unless the company has insurance.
