Get off my lawn!

It started as a movie about the founding of the FBI. The plot developed and the it became a movie about the systematic killing of the Native Americans for their oil money. During that era, the Osage Indians were some of the richest individuals in the world. They were getting the equivalent of 400K per person per year for the oil royalties.
Of course the white man set up rules that called most of the natives incompetent and they were appointed a guardian. The "guardians" were as crooked as you can imagine, and often skimmed most of the money, and even outright killed the person they were supposed to help. It was all filmed in Oklahoma and lots of residents in the area were used as extras, and many in real speaking parts. Even real home movies were incorporated in the film.

Yes, and Leonardo and made by Scorsese.
All three of them were on CBS Sunday Morning this week for a 20 minute segment about making the movie. Very interesting.

I've seen the trailers 20 times before other movies in the last few months. While I'm sure it's a masterpiece, my best guess is I'll feel the same way after finishing Michener's Hawaii, all 937 magnificent pages that were filled with bloody conquest, tragedy and misery that ripped your heart out and threw it in the gutter of despair next to empty pack of Pall Malls and a crumpled up pile of abandoned dreams.
Only in high school, it took months to get over that book. No thanks.

Given a choice, I always read the book. One of the best historical novels you will read. In this case, knew the story prior to reading the book. No doubt Deniro will be very convincing in his role as a racist monster. Not interested in the movie

That is why I will start with the book.
All my interest in the Tribes has been in the deep Southwest so I am interested in reading and, frankly, judging, if the author has the understanding about Tribes I am not familiar with. The Tribes in this country deserve the whole truth, not a bunch of whites telling them what the facts are. Lived it.

Me either. I know of this story, and if I want to see depressing images of people behaving like heartless bastards, I'll just watch the network news on TV...

A dark time for sure. Don't think I want to sit and watch 3 hours of people taking advantage of others. Got enough of that in the current news.

Same here. I knew nothing about this part of our history until watching CBS Sunday Morning earlier this week. I guess I should go bury my head in the sand instead of seeing it. ![]()

Settle down there tiger. First, I think we can all agree some sort of turtle hide in shell phrase would have hit home a little better.
Second, read Hawaii. it reads very fast, you just can't get enough. Like Tess of the d'Urbervilles. First half was a slog, pure Hardy. Second half was 8pm to 6am the next day. That's how Hawaii reads. Third, hit YT and watch some history lessons on the Tulsa Massacre. Study it in depth. Tulsa Massacre videos I love history and study it a lot on YT. It's fun and insanely interesting and provides a lot of introspection and perspective on our culture today. World history is even better. Japan. If I want to learn about the Osage, which did come up in the algorithms while I was learning about Tulsa, I'm happy to in a more sterile, factual and less emotional way than this movie. Hope you enjoy it. It's just not for me. Peace.

^^^ I'll report back after I see the movie.
I've never seen a movie with Leonardo in it that I didn't like....he seems to really be choosy about his roles.
