In collage my friends had cool cars like a 69 Mach1, a 72 Cougar, and even a brand new 79 TransAm.
I had this. ![]()

I bought an 80 Chev LUV truck like this one for $250
It was rusted out terribly, but it ran good. I kept it for a couple years and sold it for the same amount. The Isuzu engine was a great engine. ![]()

When I lived in England, someone GAVE me a late 70s Dodge Omni. Looked like this POS but had Omni script on the C pillar. It wouldn't idle and finally blew a water pump. I sold it for scrap.
![]() I also had a Mercury Sable that looked pretty much like this one. I believe it was a 1988 or 89. It was a total piece of junk. Can't believe I paid money for it. My BIL, who was and still is a car dealer, talked me out of buying a late 80s Nissan Maxima for this POS. His logic: the Nissan has 70k on the clock, by the time you pay it off it will have well over 100k. Hmmm, just saw a similar Maxima last week and it was still going strong. Bad choice ![]()

When I was about to start driving, my parents bought a Chevy Vega GT wagon for me and my sister to share. It was manual trans. I took to the clutch and gears immediately. My sister never did.
When the parents got divorced shortly thereafter, my poor father got the Vega. My mother got everything else, literally. It was white and was pretty close to this one. ![]()

62 Rambler American. I was 14-15. Pal and I drove it around the neighbor hood at night and upgraded to a 2 door 65 Malibu when I hit 16.
Mine had a green lower section and was way worse body wise than this picture. ![]()

What can I say, it had a rebuilt engine and trans in it and my brother traded me straight across for this Alfa: ![]() My wife was NOT happy when I showed up with the brown car after taking a trip with a friend up to my brothers to retrieve the 912.

My first (and fuglyist) was a $500 '64 Thunderbird like this one:
![]() While the outside was nothing special, the interior was space-age pop: ![]() The speedo was like a thermometer, cool 'orbs' for the gauges, and the steering wheel could be shifted to the right when in park to ease egress. Got in in '77, but sold it in '80 when gas went over $1 a gallon. Now car #2 was a nice upgrade: '72 small block 4-speed like this: ![]()

...I don't have a picture of the Maverick my wife drove when we were first married.
I think it could have broken the camera if I'd taken a picture of it.

Flight school 1983. I have a really nice BMW 2002.
I get hit, 2002 is done-ski. My logic was the flying part of flight school was, for the lack of a better term, a no brainer. What I was concerned about was medical/eyes and the "NAMI-Whammy". I wanted zero debt should I get bounced. I was able to buy the mighty, mighty Fiat 128, a year old, for much less than I got from USAA for the 2002. I actually drove this thing across country twice. Not mine in the picture below. Mine was white, so it ran better ![]() ![]() You couldn't get laid in this thing in a women's prison with a hand full of pardons.

Bought a well-used, butt ugly example to pull my first Formula Ford on an open trailer. Lasted one season. Trying to pull the 20-ft enclosed trailer bought during the second season was a near-death experience....(imagine the sway from the short-wheelbase combined with a sub 60 mph top speed).
![]() Replaced it with a 10-yr old Suburban.....also butt ugly, put did a fine job pulling the trailer. ![]() |

This thread reminds me of the 'less than perfect women' thread. 99% of the cars y'all call ugly are beautiful, timeless, designs. Perhaps y'all are saying y'all owned forlorn examples?

I wanted zero debt, which is why once I got my wings, the 128 was sold to my lovely neighbor in Milton, Florida, and her E-9 retired husband.

Wait…no Pontiac Aztec owners? That may be the only car that can bear the pacer.
