Today is a great day

Shortest day of the year. Every day from here on out is longer and longer. Such a great feeling!

I noticed that the sun was rising waaaaaay to the south this morning. It'll be nice to see it work its way back to the north now.

The weird thing is, we’re not halfway through winter here in Portland. Maybe metereological winter is half done, but what we experience as winter has only recently started :-(

Well, I’m going to start tomorrow in Key West, and end it freezing my ass off in Ohio. I appreciate the strategic change in direction, but not loving my short term tactical prospects.

I think you might have that backwards, sir. Have your compass checked.

Best time of the year! Get outside, ski, Nordic and alpine, slide with the grandkids (nothing like sweating steam hiking the hills) skate, ride fat tired bikes, surf, run in the snow, snow shoe,
Life is better with cold air to temper the effects of out door activities

Winter Solstice is regarded as the "first day of winter."

I celebrate the winter solstice for the reason Shaun gave. Days will now start getting longer.

I do my best to emulate his best qualities which were numerous, still think about him all the time. I am getting an LTC so I can get the Browning.

In Chicago, the weather has been very mild - I don't get the feeling of winter, but there is plenty of winter in January and February. It gets dark just after 4pm here and I look forward to longer daylight hours.

Kudos to Robert for posting the stages of winter. I follow this pattern too. By March 1st, I ready to shed the winter attire
