Nanoparticle Solution Flow Battery

https://spectrum.ieee.org/amp/flow-battery-2666672335-2666672335

PPOT brain trust, thoughts and comments on this please?

If true and practical, it sounds like a real solution (har har) for lots of problems.

I have been interested in flow batteries, as utility-scale storage, but have never thought that flow batteries could be competitive with or superior to conventional (solid) batteries in energy density or could be recharged by replacing the discharged solution with charged solution rather than recharging the solution in situ.

I'm still absorbing that info but if those can be used as back up to solar panels they might make the footprint of such backup much smaller.

Nanoparticle Solution Flow Battery

I am hoping to add a reasonably priced residential flow battery for our home in the not too distant future, to store power from our solar panels. With battery backup, our house would be largely off the electrical grid.

This could be a promising development.

400L… that’s 100 gallons give or take.

That’s ~ 1000 lbs of nano fluid for each vehicle. It ain’t nuthin.

I've been reading snake-oil ads written by A.I....designed for indigenous tribes...and can power a cell phone.
(The surprise is probably that the very pricey chemicals are consumable.)

electrolytes in the saline liquid react with magnesium and copper plates on the interior of the lamp to produce electricity.

The electrodes of the salt bridge make it possible to drain energy from the salt water, (a known process), but with the electronic circuit with which it is possible to extract around 500 watts for each liter of water.

100 gallons is about 834 lbs. If they hold 500 Wh per gallon that will be 50kWh. With a Tesla, that would be a 188 miles of range. To get back to 320 miles, you'd need 170 gallons or about 1420 lbs. That is about half the weight of an 85 kWh Telsa battery pack.

You would need to drain and refill the car. Probably would take 10-15 minutes, which would speed up EV recharging. The station would then recharge the nano fluid.

The next issue is that the listed "range" of EVs is far far worse then the EPA ratings on car engines. YMMV...

Share some sci-hub articles.

It’s a great alternative to lithium ion and the illicit economy attached to the REE market. Depending on what the composition of the nanomaterial…
