Awesome, congrats! I have always liked Dane, seems like a standup guy. He just gets on with his business of driving fast without binning the car.

Very tight final 20 minutes. It is great to see Porsche with win 19 at Daytona.

The broadcast sure makes me love my DVR. I recorded all the broadcast parts, and fast forwarded through endless commercials. I had to delay my viewing a little, but as long as I avoided this thread, I got to watch a great finish and not know who won until the weird checkered flag with time on the clock. Whatever, it is over and the 963 did great. The GTD class 911s seem to be rather noncompetitive. Hopefully they can do better in for the year.

Second in GTD Pro was the 911 of AO Racing.

From Sportscar365: >>>> There was initial confusion, however, as IMSA race control declared over the radios that the white flag flew, despite two-and-a-half minutes remaining on the clock. Teams ended up taking the checkered flag twice. <<<<

How does a screw-up like this happen? What if there had been only a few cars lengths between the Porsche and Cadillac when the false checkered was thrown?

Congratulations to Penske Porsche for wining the 2024 Rolex 23:58!

You have one job, wave the flag after the 24 hour clock runs out.

I could not imagine going back to the pre tire warmers days on my bikes.
Many broken clavicles until warmers became common, even for track day guys.

I wonder what happened to the Ferrari of Houston stickers on the Risi Competizione GTD Pro winning car? They are still based in Houston according to their website.

The # 6 Porsche Penske was warned then penalized for producing too much electric current during braking . Anyone have any idea what is supposed to keep that within spec ? Did the team do something wrong ? Is it a defective part ? Random software glitch ?

CurtEgerer 01-29-2024 06:00 AM

^^^ I don't know but based on the commentary during the race it sounded like there was a software or sensor issue the team/drivers were aware of and were trying to drive accordingly to avoid penalties?

Some really excellent pics from the Daytona Beach News Journal.

Best week end in a long while for me...
Nice weather after a month of rain
Porsche wins the rolex 24
Rally is back in monte carlo
Sinner won the australian open
... and I found why my 911T was running rough (one broken corroded plug connector).
This one is gonna be tough to beat !

All the GTP teams use the same suppliers electric motor, battery, and controller. It's up to the teams to program it to keep total combined power output between engine and motor within allowable power. Not sure why they can't adjust it during the race if it puts out too much since I'd assume the team and IMSA are looking at the same power output data.

The #7 was warned once but managed to not get a penalty for a second time offense.

It has to some sensor programming issue. I am sure they will get it figured out for the future races. A stop and wait 10 second penalty early in a 24 hour race is not a race ending thing. It it happened near the end of the race it would end any chances of a podium.

rfuerst911sc 01-29-2024 10:30 AM

Reading online Porsche has stated the issue was software driven . They supplied new software during the race to Penske and the two privateer teams . Apparently that software worked on three of the cars but not the # 6 . Looks like they need to dig into why it didn't work on that car .

I can tell you those pictures with the Farris wheel in the background are tough to get right.
