A car can spin out, be towed back to the pits and go
3 laps down at hour 22 and still fight
for the lead at the end.
That stuff about waving lapped cars around
the pace car is more like professional wrestling.
It's all about the show.

I agree totally. If you go laps down, tough luck, better luck next year. The wave around is just a gimmick to make the finish have multiple cars on the same lap.

To win, break less and crash less than everyone else.

The race is on commercial-free on Motorvision. Free app. Actually, a great app with lots of race and rally shows. Too bad this coverage wasn't avaliable live. Non-NBC announcers, the top 4 cars in each class always shown, and scrolling overall positions along the bottom.

CurtEgerer 01-30-2024 11:58 AM

Not a fan of the wave around either (it's confusing at best), but I do understand the entertainment aspect of the sport and it's difficult to argue with IMSA's success last year and this. With the use of BoPs to even out the field, there is simply no possibility of gaining back laps like there used to be in days gone by. No different than push-to-pass in Indycar or the stupid DRS in F1 - that is artificial sweetening of the race as well. For that matter, anything short of 'no rules at all' is artificially sweetening the race. So I guess we have to all pick which artificial sweetener is acceptable to us. :D

if you think modern endurance racing is boring because of BoP or the wave by whatever ... um, no.

Many people think the racers should be even at
the start line and their performance will dictate
where they finish.
IOW, CAR RACING.

And apparently, a few think the racers should all be
made even at the finish line.
Just show up and you win!
Why bother?

1. its boomers who gave out the participation trophies. they couldnt stand to think that their little Johnny average was just average, because that would mean that they weren't special. not us, we knew even as children the awards were BS.

2. without BoP the accountants win. which is even dumber than BoP. at least BoP means the best drivers and teams win. not whatever manufacturer throws the most money around.

basically without BoP you dont have racing at all.

there is no purity in not having the race in the first place lol.

Too bad a current American company can't step up and sponsor the car using the throwback 962 livery like Miller, Coke, BF Goodrich, etc.
