Dad had Carver amps running his Dahlquist DQ10's. One of my brother still has those amps with his Martin Logans.

Watched the Matrix lobby scene and the helo scene..with port stuffed with a towel and not. Cross-over lowered to 75 and phase 0 and 180. (CO was good, phase 0 and port unstuffed was best)
With the front speaker surrounds fixed....the sound was good and the bass was strong.

I think my whole problem is that the Klipsch sub is never going to have the same tremor/shaking effects as I was used to with the Advent. I can live with that.
I should have replaced the Advent with another 15 inch sub.

15" (bigger is better) when you whip out yer big ten inch .... record, of the band that plays the blu .... RAP .

I'm not into thumping bass ...

I miss Ian (McCarther) ... he hasn't been around in years, but the systems he built (for others) were ear shattering and sonic nirvana just by reading his posts....

And cost more than a nice house

Then increase the gain on the sub. As long as it is not distorting or clipping; it should give you more oomph!

Try moving it behind your listening position. If you are looking for LFE feel, check out the bass shakers (Dayton makes some affordable ones and Buttkickers rock your chair!).

A friend has buttkickers on each of the 3 chairs in his theater room and that Matrix scene is vivid.

You could also try a higher crossover frequency and increase the gain. It might become boomy for music though.

It would be interesting to look at the roll off graphs of your Yamahas and the Klipsch to see which is the best crossover point. Not knowing these graphs, I wold venture to say that at 70hz you are already giving yourself a pretty wide range to the cutoff of the yamahas at 55hz. You just have to level match now to have a more seamless integration.

As an option, put it in use only for movie effects and crank it up!

^^^ One thing I noticed last night while adjusting...in the menu of the Sony amp, the speaker level adjustment was up (a small amount) on the subwoofer. I reset it to 0 and bumped the gain on the subwoofer up a very small amount. That seemed to help with the booming. I think I had raised the gain when I first set it up and kinda forgot about that.

I've looked at those Buttkickers a while back....would be nice to try, but more wires.

Yes, that helo crash scene with the sound warp is an amazing sound effect!

I wish that subwoofer manufacturers would include a remote for setting them up. Between the crossover, phase, gain it can lead to a lot of 'back and forth' to get the ideal settings. And mine is not easy to get to the back. I end up tipping it on the front for every adjustment.

I think SVS subs are config via app, but not sure.

I think it is almost impossible to get great bass for music in a room without a calibrated mic, REW, and some DSP/eq. Its a 80$ investment and some time. It is certainly less time than experimenting enough to do by ear.

Decent deep bass in a residental room is actually a pretty big ask. Sins of omission are better than sins of excess for me anyways, my personal opinion is that is the reason why minimonitors and speakers missing the last octave are very popular in many enthusiest circles

^^^ I've been using the calibration microphone that came with my Sony A/V Amp. It's for a 5.1 setup like mine. Also, the Klipsch sub is in the exact same place as the Advent sub was.

With low freq bass at low volume..the Advent would send waves of vibration like it should.
The Klipsch doesn't do that, it only kicks in with a boom when it needs to and that's it.

Settings are the same for both.

The Advent was downward firing and 15" with no port.
The Klipsch is front firing and 12" with a port. (I tried stuffing the port...didn't help)

Is something wrong with this forum again? I'm getting emails of responses to this thread that aren't appearing on this thread.

I deleted a response. It didn't really have much to do with the thread, I decided.

Spent a couple or three hours today pulling and replacing speaker cables. The old ones were getting bad from age. While doing this, I attached these to the new cables.
Now it's easy to disconnect and connect them and it looks a lot better from the back side.

I had to buy two packs because they only include five pairs per pack!

My speaker wire , 14 ga., was a tight fit for the ends....and they're supposed to fit up to 12 ga. wire. The little set screws were about the size of eyeglass bow screws.

The old connections were the 'twist the wire' type and hope it gets clamped down.
The Sony amp has three diff types of connectors on the back and these things worked for all of them.

It looks like those Polk's have good shape foam.

Doesn't get much simpler than my great sounding kitchen system.

21 year old Klipsch super efficient speakers with 2 10's and a horn.

40 year old (damnnn I'm ancient as I worked there then) Carver PM amp with clean 150 watts a side.

and finally........

Yes, a signal source of my Alexa pod with a headphone jack, feeding straight to the amp, which drives the speakers...............who says you need a $8000 pre-amp and welding cables for wires?

I don't care what fancy over-sampled front end signal processing and amps you run, it's only going to sound as good as the speakers.

I have found some crimp connectors with a solid pin to insert in those tiny holes with tinier screws.

At least with these connectors on...there is no doubt about polarity.

Laying on your back behind the amp trying to see which wire has a faded/faint white stripe on it is difficult...esp with progressive bifocals on.

Where are you getting a signal source off of the Alexa?
I have two of the pods and the Alexa subwoofer...but I don't remember seeing any out jacks.
Maybe your pod is a newer one? I've had mine for at least 3 years, I think.

Many people say it and as long (IMHO) that you have a proper gauge for inductance, etc etc, you dont need anything else
