I found the jack on the side of my Alexa dot/pod. I'm going to try it sometime....it's only a 10 ft cable distance from the amp. I think it requires an RCA connector for the amp.

[QUOTE=stevej37;12205132]^^^ I've been using the calibration microphone that came with my Sony A/V Amp. It's for a 5.1 setup like mine. Also, the Klipsch sub is in the exact same place as the Advent sub was.

With low freq bass at low volume..the Advent would send waves of vibration like it should.
The Klipsch doesn't do that, it only kicks in with a boom when it needs to and that's it.

Settings are the same for both.

"Only kicks in with boom" This does not sound right, I think something on your Sony is not set up right. It is not in 2 channel stereo that deletes the sub, are you wired using both RCA patch cords or one? Small front speakers or large programmed in? Carefully go through all the settings.

Can you delete any calibration and set for original settings?

I'm better at setting up 2 channel audio, less unseen settings in the box.

^^^ No, all 5.1 channels are working....I have it in Pro Logic effects setting. The Amp has two subwoofer outputs...I'm using the top one with a single cord w/rca ends.

The set-up has choices for large or small for all speakers. (not the sub) I have the two fronts large and the backs and center are set to small.
The sub cross-over is set to 80 hz.

I re-ran the calibration a couple days ago and it seems about perfect....except for the sub is not like my Advent was. I watched a couple sci-fi movies that have some great low frequency scenes and if I keep the sub gain down to 3 (out of 10) it wasn't too boomy. Any higher gain would send me hurrying to the back to lower it before something broke....lol
The 15 inch Advent could be felt at lower volumes easily but subtle like. I can't feel the Klipsch like that at all...only at higher volumes.

I can live with it this way....if I can't, I'll shop for a 15 incher.

I misinterpreted the "only kicks in with boom" part. I would still try it at a lower cross over frequency like 40-45hz and higher volume to see what that does. Your Advent was likely capable of reaching to 31hz with more authority and your 18'x18' room would give some gain at that freq.

^^^ I'll try that later tonight. My cross-over control only goes down to 40...so, I'll try it at 50 hz and bump the gain to 4
The Advent was downward firing and not ported..I think that makes a diff also.
Thanks

For a reference, I re-watched the last half of 'Spaceman with Adam Sandler' to compare the prior settings to new ones tonight.

I think lowering the cross-over helped....I'm leaving it there for now.

BTW.....Spaceman is a good movie. The ending will make you think a lot.
Adam Sandler is a very versatile actor....he nails the part.

Try it right down to 40hz, don't worry about the number just use your ears, also give it a good listen and try to switch the phase again. Many speaker crossovers will invert the phase between woofer and midrange driver, the sound going slightly lower at a small frequency range is less noticeable than a bump in pressure, but lining up the woofer phase of the main speakers and the sub can help give more power for very low freq. Your sub does not have a control for that but by moving it away from the front wall you can possibly get it close.

Picked these up as a project a while back. Going to try my hand at replacing the foam in the tweeters. I’ll try to bleach the grills to see if I can freshen them up. If not, I’ll replace the cloth.

No need to ReAdvent the wheel if you don't make your new setup work for you.

I'm sure they are out there

^^^ There's a reason why they put a second 'sub out' jack on the back panel.

What brand speakers are those? Good idea on the front control knob.

Japan (built like a tank) Pioneer. They feel like they weigh more than my Heresy. For $20 I couldn’t say “no”. They were working but, they were demo’d with an old Sound Design receiver so, they’ll get a spruce up and a proper listen. May keep them for my office.

^^^Certainly worth $20

Used stereo and exercise equipment are two things than a person can always get for a fraction of new cost.
My sister said she just picked up a treadmill in new condition for $25

Those look like they're nice speakers.
Are the cones paper or ??
Shouldn't be too hard to re-foam those. I'm pretty sure the foam is available for that size speaker.

Those Pioneer CS e500 do look interesting, great deal for $20. Tri-amp capable is also interesting. Replacing the speaker surround will be easy enough, slightly more tricky because the foam is attached behind the cone vs front.

Kinda tangentially related, but I am having a good time building this kit currently

https://www.parts-express.com/C-Note-MT-Bookshelf-Speaker-Kit-Pair-with-Knock-Down-Cabinets-300-7140?quantity=1

Don't really need them, but fun. Really nice components from PE given the price. Though I am already in for another 150 on stands, 50 on paint, filler, sand paper etc. Not to mention probably 20hrs of labor so far. I cant wait to hear how they turn out.

Those are cool! I've bought a lot of stuff from PE; always pretty satisfied. Unfortunately I have so many speakers, (currently 5 sets of Polks, one set of vintage 301's) it would be foolish to build another set that would end up collecting dust, even though it looks like a lot of fun. (Wait a minute - I see they have a build kit for powered, bluetooth speakers. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........)

Mine, in the first post, were the same...foam glued behind the cone.

The instructions said to take a razor and cut the foam away from the cone leaving the glued part on the backside to stay. They said it wouldn't affect the speakers sound.

I did that, it went real easy, and then glued the new foam on the front of the cone.

Paper cones but, what’s interesting is that the mid and woof have fabric surrounds. Only the tweets have foam so, those are the only drivers needing obvious work.

I mean 200$ for 20 hrs of fun and a free set of speakers at the end, crazy not to really.

THey have those Cnotes in a powered bluetooth version and a few single box blue tooth kits as well that are reasonable.

I really like parts express, I built the 18" ultimax sub kit a few years ago and really works well even though I only use a tiny fraction of its output.
