What thief wants a truckload of tools? They're trying not to work for a living.

I just traded a junk truck I took on a trade for this Matco roller . If I were to buy another box, ( doubtful) I would buy used of course . Pennies on the dollar once they are a year old . The big red one has been in use for 25+ years .

Not too hard to sell tools. First thing to go at yard sales. Good tools, not junk. I've seen people claw through a bucket of sockets for the gems that may be in there. Same with wrenches — not so much for screwdrivers. But they will find a Snap-On or a Martin hammer. They know.

Just an aside, I have some Vaughan hammers from back in the day. Absolutely the framers choice at one time. About worthless now. But a good condition leather handle Eastwing might grab some attention. I like to restore those just for me. Just like I like to restore rosewood handle putty knives. You can hardly buy a hardwood handle putty knife today. I just like the looks of them. The blade tends to be a bit better too.

How's that for drifting OT?

Somebody broke into the shop my brother works at to find a pry bar to jimmy open the car wash change machine. The guy with the big snap on toolbox leaves his stuff everywhere. Well the thief got his change and left the 70$ pry bar there on the ground And he could have rolled that box full right out the front door.

^Shows that not all criminals are smart.

On the other hand, Milt's post about used tools is spot on. There's a small army of folks out there who cruise yard sales, estate sales, pawn shops, etc. looking for tools. They'll build sets out of their finds, sell on ebay for a profit.

I'm sure some of these listings were assembled that way. Many of the prices easily triple of what I paid for the same tools at my now long gone local area Sears...

There was a string of shop robberies about 10 years ago here. They were stealing inspection stickers and tools/equipment .
They got my buddies shop and were def going for the tools . The lifted Craigs big snap on box with the lift, and were trying to load it into a customers pick up truck . It fell and KO'd the tool box and the truck . I can only imagine the noise that made.

It's a shame that they didn't find one of the perps under it the next morning.
