The service for Charlie will be Tuesday and will be a military service.

A good life summed in obit. May we all do as well as Charlie...

My condolences Marty. You did everything the way it should be done and I'm sure everyone here hopes to have that kind of support when our time is nigh.

Hey Targa, I wish you all the strength and peace of mind possible as you and your wife go through this.

I help her get from bed to bathroom and of course I see to her every need while managing the household. I have put my life on hold for the duration. I wish I could help her more as she is miserable. The hospice people tell me that while her head is willing to go, her heart is strong and her body won't let her go. so I'm in for the duration which may take some time. This is a really hard time in my life, but principles I learned in AA have come into play a lot. Knowing what you can control and what you need to turn over to a higher power has saved my emotional stability during this awful passage.
Sorry to hear about your wife Targa. You are a good man to be doing this.

Targa,
If you see this,

Stay strong --you are not alone--all you said is true-- take solice in your memories of the good times-in fact revel in them. I've ridden the same trail . And would agree that your loss is like quitting your addictions. Its life --- nothing prepares you .

Thank you for your encouragement. I wouldn't have it any other way. We are soul mates.

This is the way it should be.

I can’t imagine what you are going through. You are the perfect example of what the good book says, “Love bears all things, … hopes all things, endures all things.”

You will be strong for your wife.

I am sad and sorry for everyone that has expressed grief in this thread. I went through this just over two years ago when my wife passed.

After she was gone I realized that there is something that no one sings about, talks about or writes poems about regarding true love. It is inevitable that it always ends with sadness.

"He remembers the first time he saw her
He remembers the first words she said
He remembers the first time he held her
And the night that she came to his bed....

I'll give you a daisy a day dear
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds have all blown away. "

and the last line of the song:

"The old man goes up to the top of the hill
And gives her a daisy a day."

The songs are there. I don't usually sing them at gigs, as my throat won't let me.
I have loved the same woman for 50 years. I have been so fortunate and don't like to think about what sort of mess I would be if she dies before me.
To those who have posted about their past or impending losses in these threads, I can only offer my condolences and wishes for strength to get through.

Best
Les

We are all here for you. I pray for you to have the strength to endure and that your wife finds peace and enjoys the last days of her life. That is a beautiful picture of a beautiful lady.

Yesterday we said goodbye to Charlie. He had a nice military service, and afterward, all of the family had a very enjoyable lunch at an Italian restaurant. While snacking on appetizers, several of us took turns sharing memories of Charlie, and it was so nice to hear all of the stories. It was a very fun (relaxing even) way to honor Charlie. Mom had several of Charlie's Auburn University hats, yes, he was an AU fan, and she let all the grandkids pick out the hats they wanted, that was great and they loved it, taking selfies with their hats on. Mom also had the WWCD hat, but that one stays with us. It was a good way to say goodbye for now.

Rest In Peace Charlie, your work here on this earth is finished. War Eagle To You Sir!!! We will miss you, We Love You.
