				Insanity Captured

Been revisiting Captain Beefheart lately. A multi talented artist, painter, sculptor (all as Don van Vliet), and musician as the Captain. Hats off to David Letterman for even trying to talk to him. It had to be at least a little bit frustrating: With the Magic Band: Exposed to him as a young Zappa fan back in the early '70's, I had no idea what to make of him. Still don't, really.

One of my all-time favorite albums is "Bongo Fury," Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, and The Mother's of Invention!!! Awesome album with live portions recorded in Austin, Texas!!! "Man With The Woman Head" was so weird, and I loved it!!! ...so this was a drive-in restaurant in Hollywood... good times!!! Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk

I think I've heard of "Captain Beefheart" but that was (before this thread) the only exposure that I'm aware of. Seems like a bit of a nutter. Maybe too many drugs. I'll check out some of the music on YT. I'm often game for weird sheiße.

Long time fan of the Captain. The Magic Band was pretty awesome "Zoot Horn Rollo, hit that long lunar note". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6tgGkrdrVY | ||

A live version captures the true essence of the good Captain so much better: From his first album. Imagine this, in 1967 (or was it '66?) when all the Beatles wanted to do was "hold your hand":
