Lets talk office chair

I spend most my time outside. Usually after dinner time, I sit on my desk and do some paper work, come here to see what's going on then maybe watch a movie or something interesting on utube so spending about 4- 5 hours on my chair daily is usually pretty normal. I know, about Herman-Miller chairs. Wife suggest I get one but I am just too cheap to fork out that kind of money. I have always bought chairs from Office Depot or places such as Costo or similar. They last about 6-7 years. This last one is a gaming one thinking its should be comfortable as it curves around my back. Nope, not too good but I manage and do like the pull out leg support when watching a movie. Any suggstions? I have been looking at those on Amazon for about 300-350 bucks. Thoughts?

You can get an Aeron from a used office furniture place for $400. They are so durable that a used one will look and last just fine. Mine is 20 years old, looks new.

There is no substitute. Nothing comes close. You are bringing shame to your ancestors and woe to your descendants by considering anything else. Have you no pride? Your wife is right. As usual.

Seriously, man, get the Aeron.

I have a Steelcase Chair for the last 15 years in my home. It is in my art studio and is used daily. Great chair with a lifetime guarantee. It retailed for $800. I don't buy cheap chairs, they don't last. Herman Miller is another great brand.

I've had an Aeron for 12 years now. It's as good as the day I got it used off of CL for $300. Your body and comfort are worth $300 over 12 years and I'm sure it will go past 20 if not forever. It literally has not worn at all.

Herman Miller Aeron is a great chair. I've had them at most of my jobs for a long time now and they do seem to last forever. That's probably the best way to go.

That said, I'd love to have a chair made from an old seat out of a Porsche or a Recaro. I thought the seats in my old '88 were awesome. I think the sport seats in my boxster are also awesome. I wouldn't pay the ridiculous price for the Porsche office chair, but I would buy an old seat and figure out how to attach it to a good base.

That's easy Steve, get an 18x18x1/4 sheet of aluminum (or whatever the length across the tracks is) and drill some holes, 4 for the seat tracks and 4+ for the old seat swivel.

My wife and I bought a pair of these at the start of working from home back in 2020. We are both still working remote and they are good as new.

I have Tempurpedic office chair with lumbar support that is great.
The other option is that if you are going to be uncomfortable, then look cool!

Check out Secret Labs Titan.
My daughter convinced me to get one four or five years ago since I needed a new chair. I regularly sit in this chair 6-7 hours straight (just ask my wife).
It's as comfortable as the sport seats I had in my 911SC that were redone by AutoBahn in San Diego. I changed the casters to in-line skate types and it rolls great.

Yep, looks like the old seats in my old '88 targa. I'd love something like that.

Or better yet, the seats out of my boxster. But when Porsche was making and selling these (don't think they sell this model any more) they were something like $3500.

I think it would be easier to buy a seat from someone that had swapped theirs out and attach it to a base. It wouldn't be as fancy, and it wouldn't have the power recline like the Porsche seat, but at a fraction of $3500, who cares.

That's good to hear. When I get a chair, it needs to be a good one, because like you, I may sit it in for many hours a day when I'm working from home. It's a bit more than the OP's budget, but if it's quality... In addition to being available from the manufacturer, they are also on Amazon. Looks like from the manufacturer they run roughly $450-650 (didn't check to see if there were "options" that increased the price)

When my daughter reco'd them they were on sale for @$369 w/free shipping. They had bought two of them and had them shipped to Japan where they were living at the time.
My old chair was one of those non-ergo chairs. It was ten years old when I finally got this one.
A lot of people would say it's too firm, but it works for me. It's a gamer's chair and those guys sit for days at a time from what I understand.

The casters were only $20 on Amazon. Well worth the change as it's silent when it rolls.

LOL!

I'm assuming this may be more like what you're recommending.

I suspect they won't go back down to $369, but I'll keep an eye out for sales.
