I remember every DJ has a slow, stoned delivery, and the pot innuendos were abundant.

Did like Jackson Browne much when I was a kid. Not heavy enough for me but his Somebody's Baby is forever etched in my hard disc with Fast Times at Richmond Hi.

I remember WPHD/WYSL out of Buffalo, NY in the 70's and 80's consistantly clear channel FM rock mostly. Long ago. At that time we lived in a college town, Alfred, NY out in the hills, got them on our (back then) rudimentary cable system. Pulled them in on a Scott receiver off the cable. Then we had WCMF out of Rochester, NY with Brother Wease, totally great show with music every day!

PYX-106 out of Albany NY. AOR - Album Oriented Rock. One of the best programs was "For Headphones Only". They played albums and tracks that are best listened to with headphones.

Thie guy has been around for decades. Dj all over the US. Keith Vaughn on 104.7. How about his voice in this short commercial.

I just looked at their web-page. 40 years later, Dr. John Cooper is STILL a DJ!

You should hear Earle Bailey on Classic Vinyl, channel 26 on Sirus XM. Lots of stoner talk, really cracks me up. "Next up we're gonna try another doobie...brother's song..."etc.

I listen to a lot of XM when whizzing around the track at work. Shhh, don't tell anyone!!!

There was a radio station when I lived in Panama City, Florida, in the late 80s/early 90s called Z Rock. Man, they played the hardest stuff at the time, like Slayer, Metallica, Black Flag, Sepultura, stuff like that that nobody played. I still have a sticker on my favorite drinking glass from that time. Good times!!!

My glass a girlfriend in high school had made for me. It has my name engraved along with a sailboat on one side, and then years later, I added the Z Rock sticker. I've got a yearbook in a box here somewhere with some TK 101 stickers in it that are still on the backing paper.

Its still around, sorta. College and some independent public stations.
Good examples you can stream-WTJU here in Charlottesville, in theory UVA's college station, but very eclectic-Classical in am, Jazz mid mornings, and all kinds of stuff later in the day. The most amazing Motown/soul show 12-2 on Mondays. Saturdays from 4-9 starts with song obits (i kid you not) then some Dead, and finishes with eclectic concerts.
WWOZ in New Orleans is also amazing, jazz, blues and New Orleans stuff, but Friday nights they play some really unusual versions of that...

I used to listen to FM all the time. Then the station that played classic rock, was bought. It started with endless commercials, and the same songs several times per day as they bragged about the largest music library in the area. I finally just gave up on commercial radio. I have not listened to any radio in many years. In both cars I have a stereo that plays my collection of 140 or so CDs from a thumb drive in random mode. Never ever a commercial. I HATE commercials.

In my home office, in the garage, or while mowing the yard, I listen to Pandora. I have noise cancelling headphones that connects to me cell phone. I can listen to Pandora and run the noisy equipment. It does make it hard to know if the equipment is running right. Last week the start to "Hot for Teacher" from Van Halen. It starts with a drum solo, and I though my mower was about to throw a rod or something. No issues, just rock and roll!

I got 3 months of Sirius XM in my new car. They offered another 3 months for $2. 6 months for 2 bucks was a bargain. It is pretty good but I doubt if I extend after Nov when my 6 months end.

I also like Pandora. I also use the previously mentioned 104.7. I stream both from my phone using Android Auto. Wireless hookup is da bomb.

In '60 or '61 my uncle built a Heathkit FM receiver for my grandmother. It played through the AM radio as I recall. My grandmother was a huge Cincinnati Reds fan and FM reception was better where we lived.
No FM rock stations here until the 70s, and then they were playing oldies.

Yep, I used to listen to Bob and Tom iin the Morning, they start laughing hard at the slightest joke and it make it impossible to hear the joke or the person talking.

They did have some funny bits and guests on occasion.

In San Diego it was KGB, and Jim McInnis was the guy with the ear; https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2012/aug/15/note-homegrown-mcginnis/

https://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/jam-session/2011/jun/10/when-djs-ruled-the-air-jim-mcinnes-and-the-birth-o/

Once he was gone it was corporate rock only and that was not interesting.

An annoying feature of FM radio is that they cut songs short. This has been going on for years, unfortunately. I don’t know if this is also the case with satellite radio.

I have noticed some songs like "Don't Fear the Reaper" or even "Margaritaville" being cut short on channel 7 (70s on 7) on Sirius XM.

Late 70s I recall am as much as fm. Transitioned to all fm before long. Don’t remember station names until the late 80s and 90s. Loved KC Kasem on the weekend with his top 40 show. ‘And she writes…..’. Also loved Paul Harvey.
