Someone at Pelican has a Sense of Humor
This just arrived on my doorstep via FedEx this afternoon. I've been rebuilding my 3.0 liter MFI motor, and one of my parts orders got split up into separate shipments. One arrived promptly, but the other had gotten delayed. I called yesterday to beg and plead for them to expedite, which they did.
![]() Gotta love it.

That really rocks, not like that's a sticker just laying around.

I spent a long, somewhat illustrious career at a famous (maybe now infamous) Pacific Northwest manufacturer of commercial aircraft. My last 15 years or so were in AOG as a tooling engineer (prior to that, I designed forming tools for interiors parts, like stowbins, ceilings, window panels, and the like).
I was responsible for the design of the tooling and equipment with which we affected in the field repairs due to everything from crash damage, to "runway rash", to "service bulletins" (equivalent to automotive "recalls"), to heavy maintenance that our customers were not equipped to perform. I travelled the world both in support of crews of mechanics dispatched by my employer, and in support of airline crews trying to figure out how in the hell to use my equipment (I found that the key to my "success" (increased travel) was to make my drawings and tooling just confusing enough to where they needed me on site). I figure I made about three laps of our wondrous globe in total. Absolutely awesome career, in the biggest "playground" for hands-on, field engineers imaginable. One of the hardest units in the industry to get into. Loved every minute of it, and everyone with whom I was privileged to work. Yup, AOG - nobody ever asked "how much will that cost?". They only asked "when can you make it fly again?". Blank checks. An engineer's dream. So, yeah, most folks here know that's what I did. Apparently, Pelican staff might have figured it out as well. I've cut that sticker out and have given it a place of honor on my tool box.

Back in my days working as a professional photographer, I shot photos of a large industrial accident for the insurance company. They only used me, or more accurately the company I worked for for the project, because their regular photographer group was on another large job.
Anyway, I shot a lot of film. 50 rolls or so, and they told me to take it to the airport, and talk to the airlines and basically I bought a ticket for the film to be shipped as a passenger, and the co-pilot personally took it on and off the aircraft and handed the film to the employee of the insurance company. It had large "Film do not X-ray" stickers on it. After almost 50 years I don't remember what it cost to ship like that but I do remember it was a large cost. Fed-X was just getting started about then.

Early in my career I was on a construction project and we needed a particular hardware set to complete an area of the building that had to open on schedule. We put a guy on a plane and he was met at the airport by the supplier with the part in a box and got on another plane and came back same day. It was installed that night and we opened. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do....

I've lost track of how many smaller airplane parts I packed in my checked luggage, or even had in my carry-on over the years. Of course I was going wherever it was anyway, so no additional cost, but it was one sure fired way to make sure the parts in question actually got there when we did.

I did a Google search for AOG and this showed up in the search results. Deja vu all over again!

Hah! I had forgotten about that first time they did this. Do any of the rest of you get AOG stickers on your Pelican shipments? Shirley, they don't keep those around just for me...

Is this really a good idea? It seems there is a risk AOG wil come to mean, “Yawn, another guy wants his car parts in a hurry,” and will become meaningless for the people who really need it.
