I won’t be watching, but my brother is there with his wife. He’s on the international Olympic committee and has been to every winter Olympics since 1980.

Welcome to Teahupoo, Tahiti, the official Olympic surfing venue for the Paris 2024 Games. Teahupoo, a notorious surf break in Tahiti, is renowned for its extraordinarily heavy, thick waves, making it both a thrill and a hazard for surfers. Known as "The End of the Road," this reef break produces life-threatening waves due to the sudden transition from deep to shallow water. Some key highlights include: 1. Historical Significance: First ridden in 1985 by Thierry Vernaudon, Teahupoo's challenging waves have since drawn top surfers from around the world. 2. Dangerous Nature: The waves break about 500 yards offshore over a sharp coral reef, with the depth dropping to over 300 feet just beyond the reef. This sudden change creates powerful and dangerous waves. 3. Record Rides: Notable rides include Laird Hamilton's "Millennium Wave" in 2000, Nathan Florence's massive paddle-in wave in 2015, and Jamie O'Brien's fiery ride the same year. 4. Deadly Reputation: The wave has claimed the lives of five surfers, highlighting its perilous nature. Briece Taerea's tragic death serves as a stark reminder of the dangers. 5. Unique Characteristics: Teahupoo's wave faces are two to three times bigger than their backs, and the break has three main take-off spots catering to different surfing styles and levels of risk. 6. Cultural Impact: The spot is steeped in local culture, with its name meaning "the pile of heads" in Polynesian, and it has become a legendary venue featured in films and documentaries. 7. Sporting Milestones: It hosted its first pro surfing event in 1998 and will be the surfing venue for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Kelly Slater also made history here with a perfect score in 2005. 8. Extreme Stunts: The wave has been surfed blindfolded, ridden on a skimboard, and even tackled by a motorcyclist, demonstrating its broad appeal to extreme sports enthusiasts.

As a kid, we looked so forward to the Olympic games. As an athlete throughout my life I used the games as inspiration. Trust me, I was never at risk of being an Olympic athlete...
That said, after being a team lead/SME on the Airspace Defense Program for the 2010 winter games here in Vancovuer, I lost any desire to spend time wathcing now. Gained too much insight into the inner workings of the IOC and countries OC's, their VIPs and VVIP's (yes, that is a thing) .... A party for the best "fat cat" positions in the entire world (IOC/FIFA) paid for by the local tax payers. It is not a wonder that they are having a hard time finding cities/country's to compete and place bids for the ummmmm "priviledge" of hosting Olympic Games.... Still love the sports and wish the athletes the best experiences and results, as they do not realize they are only there to be the selling feature for the party for the commitee members..... Its like a strip club. The owners of the strip club do not have the best interest of the strippers in mind, they did not open their club to promote the entertainers and help them... The strippers are a commodity that fills seats and allow those in charge to live a good life and have a great party. The IOC is the same.... Cheers

Beyonce was KICKING. Not the singing, the looks! Dayum...
The two US flag bearers are professional athletes, who make millions upon millions (BILLIONS?) each, surrounded by 595 amateurs who nearly killed themselves to earn the right to be on that boat. I'm disgusted. Finally, my moan session about the Olympics. I'm classic when it comes to the Games. The competition should only be cases were someone does something higher/faster/heavier/closer than someone else. Person A does something, then Person B has to do it better. No team sports, no gymnastics, no break dancing. Track and field, weightlifting, swimming, downhill slalom, skeleton, bicycling, *perhaps* individual events like archery (PERHAPS!). Nothing else.

Oh. the walkway up to the Olympic flagpole is shaped like Le Eiffel. Was that Victor Von Doom carrying the flag?
Let the games begin and bring on the rugby!
