No football.

No basketball.

Only Baseball.

Fine by me.

The ‘Feds’ would all be Ninjas.

I am glad this has been a fun thread. I was hoping for some screenplay ideas, but just as well, some clever posts make for a good read.

Probably not a democracy, multi-cultural, etc. Asian countries tend not to be.

The Native Americans would have been exterminated even faster.

I’m not sure if Africans would have been imported en masse as slaves. If so, they’d remain so today.

The USA would now include Canada and Mexico.

The Nazis would rule Europe. OTOH, Japan would be a glowing ashpit.

Look171 and I would be here, none of the rest of you. All your Porsches be ours.

Music would be very different - no Delta Blues to become jazz and rock, everything would be in that weird equal tone scale.

Food would be good but ultimately kind of boring. Oh, mom, jellied pigs feet again?!
Great post but let's start with 17th century Qing Dynasty China landing in Los Angeles, now a vast ocean separating settlers from the home country.

My Polish grandmother didn't make jellied pigs feet, a Polish dish, but we had hog hocks with sauerkraut quite a lot as kids. I would do anything to travel back in time and have her hog hocks, blood sausage and chicken fricassee with the best dumplings you could imagine.

Chinese came to the US in numbers in the late 1800s to work on railroads as coolies, eventually got into cooking and laundry and so on, built Chinatowns, the Chinese culture remained very distinct and clear. Now, if they had been the mainstream instead of a minority, maybe they wouldn’t have hung on to their culture, food, language, traditions etc so hard. I dunno.

I read a book on the history of China. It was long and dense, so I quit after reading the section on the Han Dynasty, which I consider “my” dynasty because it was started and ruled for centuries by persons with my family name. I was pleased to read about a period during which “we” actively exterminated familes, or maybe just influential familes, who had different family names. I mean, the Chinese didn’t mess around. Pretty boss.

There’s a Pratchett quote that covers this admirably…

Quote:
If you lived in the Empire then you learned how to make soup out of pig squeals and swallow spit because that’s how it was done, and you were bullied by soldiers all the time because that was how the world worked.
But if someone wrote a cheerful little book about…what I did on my holidays…in a place where the world worked quite differently…then however fossilized the society there would always be some people who asked themselves dangerous questions like ‘Where’s the pork?’

vvv No, we would not.

"Asia" is a geographic reference only. There is simply not an "asian" blanket we can throw over an incredibly diverse, culturally distinct group of countries that are in the mean racist, xenophobic, aggressive and completely indifferent in their hatred for each other: If "Asians" founded North America, our Civil War would have been a side-show in comparison.

How does Eastern Philosophy differ from Western Philosophy?

Eastern and Western philosophies have distinct characteristics that set them apart from each other. While it is important to note that generalizations can oversimplify the complexity of these traditions, there are some fundamental differences between the two:

Metaphysics:
Eastern philosophy often places a greater emphasis on metaphysical and spiritual aspects of existence. Concepts such as karma, reincarnation, and enlightenment are central to many Eastern philosophies. In contrast, Western philosophy tends to focus more on logical reasoning and empirical observation.

Individual vs. Collective:
Western philosophy typically places a higher value on individualism and personal freedom. It emphasizes personal rights, autonomy, and the pursuit of individual happiness. In contrast, Eastern philosophy often highlights collective well-being, social harmony, and the interconnectedness of all things.

Practicality:
Eastern philosophy often offers practical techniques and practices for personal transformation and spiritual growth. Meditation, mindfulness, and other contemplative practices are commonly employed in Eastern traditions as a means to gain insight and cultivate wisdom. Western philosophy, on the other hand, tends to focus more on theoretical frameworks and intellectual analysis.

Of course we'd all be speaking English. I mean, the Bible in my church is in English, and if English was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for everyone.

Oh, you mean what would it be like if Asiatic people
(from like Siberia maybe) emigrated
along a natural land bridge between Asia and North America
during an ice age,
inhabiting this continent for about the last 15,000 years
as indigenous peoples?

Gee, I don't know what that would be like.

Quote:

The peopling of the Americas began when Paleolithic hunter-gatherers (Paleo-Indians) entered North America from the North Asian Mammoth steppe via the Beringia land bridge, which had formed between northeastern Siberia and western Alaska due to the lowering of sea level during the Last Glacial Maximum (26,000 to 19,000 years ago).

These populations expanded south of the Laurentide Ice Sheet and spread rapidly southward, occupying both North and South America, by 12,000 to 14,000 years ago.
The earliest populations in the Americas, before roughly 10,000 years ago, are known as Paleo-Indians.
Indigenous peoples of the Americas have been linked to Siberian populations by linguistic factors, the distribution of blood types, and in genetic composition as reflected by molecular data, such as DNA.
