Some implications for FL's insurance market and other things of interest to me.
Cedar Key (where I usually go fishing) took its third direct hit in a year. A week after a fire took out a few businesses

Post office, quicky mart, several restaurants, and multiple houses gone or totally destroyed. On phone without real internet so I cant repost pics ...

The afore mentioned Nolichucky River I presume? It's been decades, but I remember Erwin being close to where we went rafting a few times.

This ain't quite over ....

The pot is a bougainvillea. The palm behind it is in the ground.

I do have two large palms, in pots, on the side of my house. When I say large, they're probably 1,000 lbs each. They're not going anywhere.

We got lucky here, it went mostly west of us. But SW Va is a mess, the New River etc. Lots of records to be tied or broken, swift water rescue teams in place etc.

Paul, that stuff around Aiken looks awful. Hope any horses she had were safe.

The rainfall totals are staggering: 29.58 inches for Busick, N.C.; 24.20 for nearby Mount Mitchell State Park; about 13 inches in Boone,

Good grief, it looks like North Carolina got it worse than Florida. I hope everyone is okay.

There will be many areas in the SE that will continue to make the news ... localized devastation...

This was a bad one ... for sure.

Hope everyone is safe and well....

A lot of areas will compete for "the worst".... unfortunately .

Is one flooded valley different from another?

The mtns got hammered .... bigly.

Out & about this morning .... minimal limbs & trees down here .... but at my parents early this morning, I heard HEAVY equipment .... and an occasional chainsaw ... so I went to check out the property a few hundred yards away.... corner lot.

A big azz uprooted tree was being propped up 50' in the
air ... or soon to be falling into a major road... along with others to be dealt with.

Bullet ... dodged ... whew

So much widespread damage hundreds of miles inland. Looks like low lying parts of quaint Biltmore Village next to the Swannanoa River are significantly flooded. The towns of Chimney Rock and Lake Lure, NC are completely devastated along with a section of Interstate 26 & 40. The area mountains catch a lot of rainfall and drain all of it into these narrow and bending rivers. Add development right on the banks and wait for Mother Nature to show up angry.

I hadn't realized just how bad The Carolinas were hit. I have several close friends in the area, including around the Ashville area, whom we haven't been able to reach

This is one of the most shocking and devastating before and after pictures I’ve ever seen! This is downtown Chimney Rock, North Carolina and it is completely decimated. 😞

Please keep them all in your prayers.

This will be a long and painful recovery for many areas... basically every single valley .... flooded... over several states.
