One of our customers live in Florida in the panhandle. His home insurance has a 100,000 deductible, and he is paying over 20K per year in insurance. He know it will go up soon and his area has been fine.

I feel for the residents. Having everything one owns destroyed would be devastating.

Yep, not much different from huge wildfires in the west. One is fire and the other is water, either way you are wiped-out. Either one can kill you quickly. And both are going to continue to get worse.

I lost a valuable old PU truck that I’d just put dozens of hours into rebuilding in the Creek fire here in 2017, total loss and not insured yet because it was not on the road and stored at my friend’s horse property in Tujunga, (northern LA county). His fire policy had a similar 6-figure deductible, so I was SOL.

My loss was absolutely nothing compared with what people are losing in these storms, I only bring it up because it relates to insurance. I hope that Dixie and everyone else here stays safe.

I'm going to Clermont, just West of Orlando. Hopefully I have a house, ideally a dry house, when I get back. I'm lucky I found a room.

Stay safe, Dixie, and all those in the path of yet another one. [emoji120]

I put up most of the storm shutters, only sliding glass door and front door left. We have a whole house generator that was recently serviced. Its only my wife and I so we don’t need much for supplies. We are inland and not in a flood zone.

Its good you’re getting away early Dixie to beat the rush. Hoping too you come back to a dry house.

Good. Stay safe. Surge predictions don’t look good.

We got out today. Staying in a hotel in Georgia. I’m not to worried about the wind, our house has been through Charley and Ian, and damaged but still there. But the last storm brought water up to the garage door, a lot of my neighbors were not as fortunate.

This guy is good. I watch his live streams when a hurricane makes landfall.

Sure don't care for these things. Got the shutters ready. All else is mostly done. No flood issues here. Now have to put up with non stop doom and gloom forecasts.
Good move Dixie, smart thing to do. Good luck

This thing is already a Cat 4 on its way to being a Cat 5. I hope everyone stays safe, batten down the hatches now and brace for impact. Prayers to all in the path of this one!!!

Two in one week…is this normal or are we experiencing some sort of change in the climate?

911 Rod 10-07-2024 10:04 AM

I just got off the phone with a friend who has a vacation home in Cape Coral.
It's getting hard to find fuel, TP and water. People are evacuating, but some are bunkering down.
He's expecting 12" of storm surge as he is across the road from the canal. His home received lots of damage from the big storm a couple of years ago when he had 18" of storm surge.
The plan is to seal the house as much as he can with anything he can find. Duct tape, caulking, sand bags.
The jetski is parked at the front door incase he needs it for an escape.
Bad times to come ....

I'll still get it, but being halfway between both coasts is certainly giving me some protection... and I have no flood worries.

If any of our SW Fl pelicans are headed north, I'm about 10 minutes from I-75 exit 399 if you need a place to stop. Have some spots in the yard which should be safe from any falling trees etc. if you need to park a car or trailer
