Bit of a haul, but I can fit folks in my house in Aiken...just let me know. Power is on, a/c works, etc.

My car is packed, and my house is prepped. I'll be on the road tomorrow. I expect traffic to be insane.

I have this gut feeling my house won't make it to 101 years old. In fact, I expect most of my neighborhood to be gone.

Hopefully I'm just being overly dramatic.

I don't have a hotel room until tomorrow. It'll be alright. Landfall is estimated at 8pm Weenesday

I have a buddy, who lives around Tampa, and he’s planning on staying. He lives 15 miles from the coast. I reminded him, Western North Carolina, was 600 miles from the coast…

If it helps, I won’t be there;)

FWIW, I threw my mink and fox coats on my spare bed. My thinking is the water won't get that high. Sure, the wind may get them. If that happens I expect to see some happy homeless people in a couple months. 🤣

I'll still get it, but being halfway between both coasts is certainly giving me some protection... and I have no flood worries.

Very kind offer, but I'm headed SE to a resort near miami. Almost done putting everything of value as high as possible.

Well, if you need a safe place, even though I'm close to the St Johns river, I'm literally just out of the flood zone and my house and shop are brick, so they can Huff and Puff, and my walls aren't going anywhere, plus, the old 2500 4x4 Suburban hasn't failed me yet.

That's straight out of a Barbara Stanwyck movie. :)

Everybody stay safe!

Sorry you're in this situation Dixie. A real horror story. Do your best to stay safe and fingers crossed for the house.

Gas stations will run dry well before then. Most of the popln of Tampa-Sarasota, all filling up their tanks at once?

jyl 10-07-2024 10:05 PM

What do people do if they cannot get out of the Tampa area? Find a several story parking garage or building?

I assume the military has evacuated aircraft and personnel from MacDill AFB, CENTCOM, etc?

911boost 10-07-2024 10:36 PM

I have known people to have supplies in their attic if they need to cut through the roof to get out for the lesser storms. Everyone I know in the area has gone south to Miami.

Stay safe Dixie and everyone!

Dixie ... hit the road asap .... I would have vacated and slept in my car .... clogged roads can be a deathtrap... (my .02 for next time ;)).

Everyone here is hoping for the best for all of our folks in FL ... be safe and be well everyone!

This one is gonna be NASTY too....

id10t 10-08-2024 01:58 AM

Traffic was thick headed north on 75 last night - more than I have seen. Allowing the use of shoulders as lanes, so 3 lane became 5 lane and it was still full

Most gas stations along 75 here in Alachua co are out of gas or down to premium and non-ethanol only

KFC911 10-08-2024 02:33 AM

^^^ Just an "incident" away from being one big azz long parking lot for hours.... btdt on I-95 South once.... St Mary's bridge wreck ... sat for 3 hours ... 30 minutes away from Jax .... just 1 mile from the state line.

Here comes the sun .... y'all be safe :)

But you're taking the pearls with you...right? ;)

Be safe Dixie.
