Nice grab! A 40 is great. I'd love to have a 45 but those are getting rare. I had a 62 and love 60 series.

I love 55's, the Cybertruck of the early 1970's.

You'll have fun. Enjoy it and do the "LandCruiser Wave".

a friend bought it off of me. it is embarrassing how short a duration I owned that thing. my wife will still to this day, SIDE-EYE me hard when we see one on the streets. she was PISSED
Luckily for me my wife and I met well after my car obsession started AND, she is on board with having something like this to explore. I am going to sell off a couple of 914s I have to free up some $s and space, so that helped soften the blow. I also sold my race car a few months ago, so she sort of knew another hammer would drop

I need to better trace some of the extra wiring. The PO told me he wired it with a main and backup battery and there is a Hellroaring isolator combiner on the firewall along with a painless fuse block that the extra bits like the winch and lighting are wired into.

The yellow top is marked main and the red top backup. So as I understand it, rather than one battery running the truck and the other the auxiliary things, one is Main and the other Backup and it is switched in the cabin. There is also a high output alternator in the system. I would have thought the yellow would be the backup and the red the main. Does that make sense? He has all of the paperwork, I need to go through it.

I confirmed this morning that the main battery is the yellow top, the red is the backup. The winch and other accessories are wired into the yellow top. Both are old, the date tag on the yellow is 2016. I did a bunch of work on the FJ over the last few days chasing down some issues like inop wipers and installed a new main fuse panel. The other one was in bad shape. This restored accessory power and power to the headlights, etc. When I went to start it, both batteries were below 12v, the red, well below. Two hours on a charger and the yellow was back up to about 12.4 and the truck started fine. I've keep both on maintainer/chargers for a day or so and see if they come back up ok and stay charged with just the truck.

I accompanied my uncle when he bought a new 1977 FJ40 in Santa Rosa. Feeling self-conscious about being a new doctor in Bellevue, ID, he aged it with some flat black spray paint to make it look like it was getting body work. My brother lobbied hard to buy it after in was abandoned in a carport and my uncle tortured him for a couple of years with crazy high price expectations. As he rounded third base with the cancer that had relapsed, he gave it to my brother. It now has plates that say UNKLBOB on it. Not much power, not much speed, but lots of patina and charm. Same color as yours.

That's a great story.

The seats in it have been redone and are in good shape. I spent a day building and installing a custom seat mount to relocate the seat to the rear and give me another 2 1/2 inches or so of leg room. It still needs to be trimmed a bit and painted. I'll live with it for a bit and then decide whether to replace them.

New tires and all fluids changed. It drives and tracks much better now. The 25 year old worn out Toyo's were bad. Valve adjustment this weekend and alignment next week at a race shop I've used before.

Well bought. On my bucket list of if I relocate to where I could use one.
There’s a definite overlap in air cooled 911s and the FJs, and Ducati 900 super sports.
If you like one you’re bound to like the others.
Enjoy!

I have now covered those bases. Sadly, the Ducati was sold a few years ago as I exited motorcycling for the most part. The only bike I still have is a 93 VFR that will be back on the road someday.

Saw this yesterday with the diesel rattling and spoke with the owner. 1982- according to him the FJ45 was sold in limited numbers in the US, but none of them were diesels. This one was immaculate with the original paint. He tilted up the bed and I was surprised!
