Only pencil I cared about was the mechanical srafting pencil I got in 9th grade when I took the drafting class. Remember going to the supply place and having a plethora of lead choices

Of course, class right after drafting on my schedule was programming... and while I barely write on paper these days, I am still picky about my keyboard

You guys are almost as bad as my older brother.

Mechanical pencils, charcoal, colored pencils, even what I considered crayons, but are sort of closer to lipstick, greasy. Souped up crayons were from France.

He has an art room and the rest of the house is the music room, pretty much.

I wonder how many guitars he has now.

The Pentel Graphgear is probably my favorite. But I like how the Graphlet has a little window that you can adjust so you know which lead you've loaded.

I’m a graphic artist. Use a mechanical lead holder every day. I pencils and such are just not the same. Tombow monotechs. Some Koh-I-noors, etc. but I see the end coming. Every week I see collections of old drafting tools for sale cheap. Picked up a dzietgen elastichuck last year. Got an opisometer form a mapmakers estate sale. A brilliant little tool that I have no use for.

When I read the title, my first thought was... Asbestos and lead! Great products if you can overlook the health dangers.

Rapidiograph pens. Helped pay my way through my Junior and Senior year of Engineering School. Alvin Draft/Matic were far superior to Pentel.

Railroad curves, a great planimeter and a Leroy Set of lettering equipment.

Mayline Parallel bar, Borco board and put the drawing on Cronaflex Mylar.

I miss the old school hardware stores. I used to have a store a couple of miles from my house. It was a lumber yard and hardware store. The real treasure was they had a "kitchen" area wiith free coffee and donuts. A group of "old greys" that were all retired from the trades would meet up and chat. They were my first brain trust. I was a new homeowner of a house built in 1950. I could go in with any question, and one of them would have the answer. I had an old school bathtub fixture that had separate knobs 18 inches apart. There was nothing to replace it with that would fit. I brought it in and one guy had a faucet repair shop in his garage. He rebuilt it and said several times, they don't make them like this anymore. He diiid no want any money, he said it was a joy to to work on good old American made quality faucets. I left a $20 on his workbench. The big box stores killed it off, and it is long gone.

It wasn’t big box that killed my local hardware store, although it was still a chain; Ace, but might have been a franchise, I don’t know, but when I was in there and found out they were closing, it wasn’t because of lack of business, but location... a window company liked their location and I’m guessing the offer was too good to pass on.

if you come into the city these still exist. urban areas where box stores can't come in, they still exist.

i know of at least 2 within 5 miles of my house here in st paul. the box stores killed them all in the burbs, but no one has room for a box store in the city.
