"They" said it was gonna be a warm winter...

"They" didn't say the last three weeks of fall would suck....

I've been in shorts and it was 82 a couple of weeks ago... fall has been 4-6 weeks behind schedule.... I believed "them"... sucka!

Three weeks of lows in the teens, 20s on the way.... and I've lost my shorts

signed....

Nanook of the South

....but I still don't own a snow shovel... so it could be worse

Yeah, the cold air really settled in here this last week. Two days ago, it snowed enough to just cover the ground at my place. Less than an hour away in Grand Rapids, they had 9 inches and it was a mess.

You can thank me for winter.

After enduring another hot summer and watching a crapload of " motor oil geek" videos, I changed out my oil for a thicker viscocity.

You are welcome!

Morning temps here in the Georgia mountains is low to mid 20's for this coming week . We had our first frost two days ago . I moved from up north over 30 years ago and am now a cold wimp . I much prefer shorts and flip flops .

I finally put the snow tires on both cars last week. The last two nights have given us light dustings of snow. The blower has been on the tractor for weeks, as all other jobs (brush cutting and equipment moving) were done. If I don't have to use the blower, I won't mind.

I’ve never seen this many acorns from the oak trees on my property. Curious as to what this might mean? Healthy oaks? Armageddon?

^^^ They say the same about walnut trees...heavy nut-fall means harsh winter.
With walnut trees it's not true. They go in cycles of about 5 years. About every 5th year the nut production is way less/almost none. Then the other years, mine has about 15 wheelbarrows full.
It never relates to our winter weather.

I don't know about oak/acorn trees.

We've only been here since Dec 2020, so 4 summers. Every year we've had weather that had some odd extreme. THe first winter was "snowmaggedon" where there was snow over much of Texas and single digit lows, so that was a cause of an unusual year as far as plants and animals go. And then the summer of 2021 and 2022 were very dry which also caused the plant and animal world to be affected. I thought this year was going to be different. Most of the year we had good rain and mild temps, but then since Sep, the rain stopped and everything turned brown. It's certainly been cool the past week or so, but I think it hasn't been as cool as our past couple of winters (yet). I'm hoping for a mild winter, but at the same time, I don't want a bumper crop of bugs which is often the result of a mild winter.

This year is the largest crop of acorns that we've had. I don't think we're having an especially bountiful year of pecans though.

It has been cold here in Opelika, Alabama, supposed to be 26 degrees Tuesday overnight, way too cold for this Florida boy.
We have Oak and Hickory trees in our backyard, and there has been a huge surplus of acorns and nuts this year.

Ye gods! Two inches of wet snow this morning and local schools delayed opening for two hours. When I got to the end of my driveway, I found the plow had hit my mailbox post (pressure treated 6x6) and snapped it like a matchstick. Now I have a new project. Good thing Canada Post is on strike, so there's no hurry.
