this really is the crux of it.

like if there is a victim, like a woman, and we are talking SA, of course you snitch. or kiddie porn, or whatever. of course you tell anyone and everyone who could do something about it. ASAP.

if its a little pot or having a beer ... no one ****ing cares, move on in life. least of all the administration or your RA or whatever. they dont want to do the paperwork.

I agree. I somehow get the feeling Fred’s son isn’t telling him the whole story. Is there a possibility that his son either did something he didn’t want to admit to or just doesn’t want to stay in school. If the facts are as stated, why wasn’t the perpetrator expelled? And how did everyone find out that Fred‘s son was the snitch?

It is basically just what you would think is going on a kids dorm room, toss a bit of theft of personal items into the mix, and im sure you can see the picture more clearly .
Its jJ federal Job Corps, so they are strict . He had to pass a drug test to get in, and they can random at will if there is any suspicion . He says they told him if it happens in the room, they hold all roomates accountable. Im not sure it would apply if he still passed a drug test or was not present at the time, but he says , they have been blazing up enough nightly to make the great Jimmy Cliff proud .

these things have a way of sorting themselves out.

ie, if the drug use effects others, or their own academic performance ... thats what going to wash them out, not the offense itself.

I'd tell the roommates to take their toking elsewhere. I'm sure there is a room on the floor that would accommodate their stupidity. It's not like that's not obvious to everyone, even for hours afterwards.

Theft, the roommates could kiss my ass. I have a zero tolerance policy for that ****. ZERO.

Expulsion often takes some time to happen. I assume the University has some official process and documentation that has to occur and be completed before they can expel someone to protect themselves from being sued later.

I know someone that got drunk and punched a coworker while traveling for work. It took the company nearly 2 months to make "you're fired" official. In the mean time it was "don't come into the office."

So , this has led to him now being threatened by the kid and some of his buddies, and now , he is kind of the target of the floor of the dorms . He says , people are spreading rumours about him , and harrassing him . He told me he is scared .
I tried to have a heart to heart with him, and mentioned that my policy has always been that no good comes from snitching about anything.
Unless you have taken some sort of oath , hold a public office , or some ones well being is at stake, its not your place, mind you bidness , keep your head down, shoulders up , and stay focused on your own path . Everything else is just background noise .
Whats your policy? if you see something , do you say something, or keep a blind eye and move on ?

That is the entire crux of the situation.

If your son will be kicked out of school because of the actions of others, it is his place, it is his bidness. Hard to focus on your own path when someone is digging pit traps in front of you. Those that do deserve a rifle butt to the forehead.

If that's not the case, then yeah, none of his business.

ugh that's a tough one Fred. I guess I strongly disagree with a school policy that holds non offenders responsible for that stuff. unlike Seahawk's dad these kids don't have a guaranteed career if they toe the line. It is, IMO, not so clear a choice. For my part the pot is annoying but I would not make a fuss over it. Theft would be a different matter entirely though. Not at all cool.

At my son's school there is a parents FB group and there are frequent posts concerning kids who aren't comfortable with the dorm goings on and don't know how to deal with it. So you're not alone.
