Once, when I took my H16 to Choctawhatchee bay, Ft Walton Beach, Okaloosa Island, my brother-in-law has a Go-Pro Karma drone, and he was going to video me sailing. When he started flying the drone, he got some sort of message on his control screen stating that he was in a no-fly zone and it was going to shut down. Eglin AFB was right across the bay from where we were. So, I am wondering how these New Jersey drones are able to fly so close to "sensitive" areas?

This article does a very good job on explaining why "just shoot them down" is not an easy option here in the US. Yes, we have restricted airspace here in the US but when they're obviously circling Langley Air Force Base and Plant 42 in Palmdale (with its ties to the B2 and B21 bombers) airspace restrictions are being laughably ignored.

In Germany, they have experienced similar drone sightings near critical infrastructure and near air bases. The Germans aren't downplaying as here in the US and have come right out and stated it is most likely espionage activity for sabotage purposes.

Trump just needs to come out and promise to fire or maybe even prosecute anyone whose fingerprints are on this unless they come forward now. That should encourage a few whistle blowers.

As to the lights being on - unlit drones at night would be nearly impossible to see and these things are flying around at fairly low altitude. Fixed wing traffic taking off and landing at airports and most helicopters would be flying at hundreds of feet - right at the same altitudes these drones are at. As a former air ambulance helicopter pilot we flew low - a lot. Most helicopters are flying low especially if they're on approach or takeoff from a hospital. Hospitals with helipads are everywhere.

*If* these are foreign actors flying these drones they may have thought far enough ahead that they do not want to cause collisions with innocent helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. A collision with a large drone would be catastrophic and most likely fatal for the occupants. If they are foreign actors they may want to go around snooping, gathering intelligence - whatever, but certainly not cause a loss of life.

Right now they're just causing general fear and panic. A collision with an unlit drone would bring an unprecedented amount of resources to halt the flights and the activities would most likely come to a halt.

If it is the US Govt operating these drones as some have suggested they are taking an enormous risk with the possibility of a collision with innocent aircraft. That would be extremely foolhardy.

A large number of the photos circulating aren't drones-there is certainly some hysteria, but there are actual drones involved as well.

Which all supports this being a legitimate government or law enforcement effort that isn’t being talked about. Considering we have had an open border for four years, some variety of terrori threat certainly wouldn’t be out of the ordinary. Radiation sniffers have been deployed on aircraft and helicopters for years, conducting a similar mission using drones isn’t that far fetched.
