Nissan is swirling the drain

Not a surprise to many , their quality and sales have been going down steadily .

In my opinion as a guy who works on them, they went through the little hole a long time ago .
The lowest common denominator amongst Asian imports .
Yeah, even worse than Kia and Hyundai .
Their trucks seem to be robust however .

I haven't finished reading it yet, but the latest Car and Driver has a large write-up about Jaguar.
Basically quitting making cars for a year.

Nissan, the Dodge of the Japanese car brands. I didn't make that one up but I like it.

I’ve heard the v8 engine in trucks is a lemon. I’ve driven infinity’s for the last 6 yrs plus and the cars are pretty good.

My wife had a 2012 Nissan Altima she put 140K+ miles on without any problems. I never liked the car a whole lot though, especially the transmission.

I read they went all-in on the Leaf:

Then CEO Carlos Ghosn debaucle:

It's not just Nissan and it's been going on for a while.

The German makers (all of them) are also having issues with profitability.

I am so stealing this

QC issues are a result of people not wanting to actually work or take any pride in what they do. It is not just in the USA

Very sad to read this. They have been in financial turbulence for many years now...that I do know.

As a long time Datsun \ Nissan owner that has a huge amount of respect for the company, this is unfortunate to read. They gambled on the new 400Z and it appears to not have paid off, but I see lots of Versas, Sentras and Altimas on the road so I am surprised their sales are actually down.

They are THE only Japanese company to take on Porsche and have the Germans against the ropes for years.

In the '70s and '80s they were unstoppable, Toyota could barely keep up. Honda was a completely different market sector.

Sad to see the financial wreck the company is in.

When the 400Z came out, I was on the cusp of buying a P car after a long gap. But the styling I saw online looked promising, so I decided to hold off until I saw one in person. It doesn't look bad, but its a clearly a rebranded 370 platform, and it looks porky. The dealership I visited to see it had an intense wood paneled dirt ball vibe to it. The brand seems lost.(2014 Cayman S followed me home).

I have a personal connection to Nissan (Datsun!). My high school girlfriends mother was a wonderful lady. Treated me better than my own family. She was one of the first Datsun employees in the USA. They always had a Nissan lease car of some flavor. They had a Turbo 300z for a couple years, absolutely beautiful car that her father inexplicably let me drive. I was like 17 years old.

Do not discount the French connection for the demise of Nissan.

One of the first cars I owned was a Nissan (mid 80s). I owned it for more than 6 years and it didn't skip a beat. Zero issues!

Maybe we should start a "Datsun - Nissan" picture tribute thread?

Here is my '83 280ZX Turbo and my 80-year-old neighbor's '73 240z (that he bought brand new).

And my former '67.5 Roadster that was used to celebrate Nissan's 50th anniversary in the US (picture taken in 2008)

Nissan fan here, best car museum I've ever been to was the Nissan Hertage Colkection in Japan

Enjoyed looking around it more than Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes, Lamborgini, Maserati, Honda

I have a 2012 Xterra 4WD. It is incredibly reliable. Underpowered, drives like a log wagon, and really spartan interior, but it has never let us down in 150,000 miles.

I would never buy a car from them.

As a total outsider to the car companies, it just amazes me that any manufacturer with a reputation for high quality would abandon that and cut corners and make a unreliable car.

Mercedes was the gold standard of high quality for many decades. Then they bought Chrysler, and started selling Mercedes with very poor reliability, and very expensive repairs. They had a real downward spiral for many years. I think they finally are reversion that, but we don't own a Mercedes anymore.

Much like home appliances, our 26 year old refrigerator works great. My wife bought the dryer we still use back when she bought her first house after college. The washer we use is 26 years old. Now days, and new appliance is lucky to go 4 or 5 years without major repairs.
