Paul your comment got me thinking , with BOP will we ever see " iconic " race cars again ? When we think of iconic Porsche 917/935/962 or Jaguar or Nissans we think of them as iconic because they were so dominant . While I like that many manufacturers want to play in the IMSA arena I don't like the hand tying of the rules . Maybe I am stuck in the past .

"Iconic" or dominate cars kill a race series. The 917 forced the FIA to the 3 liter cars and the 917-30 killed Can-Am. Sure all us Porsche fans loved it. Today it is about the show and it is entertainment and keeping fans coming back in person or on TV. Manufacturers don't spend millions and expect to lose year after year. Handicapping the cars is the only way to do it. Not every series does this but IMSA does.

It's all about entertaining the fans, marketing for automotive manufacturers

True facts, when I went to the Suzuka F1 race 20yrs ago with Honda as design engineer, everyone on the team needed a visitors visa

Occupation description on my visa was 'Entertainer' :D

Honda is the only automotive manufacturer that does or has done motorsport for fast tracking their young road car engineers learning/experience and because it's a difficult challenge

Marketing benefits have always come a long distant 2nd on Honda's priority list

Every other manufacturer goes racing for publicity and to increase sales

One thing I do enjoy about the IMSA/WSC cars is that the cars don't all look the same. Indy Cars= spec car, all the same. NASCAR = minor differences in the car's appearance. F1= the cars are so fast you can't tell if the cars are different. Variety of car manufactures and differences in the cars makes it more entertaining to watch.

^^^ agreed. The thing that will be 'legendary' about this era of IMSA/WEC in the future is the fields themselves. Never has there been anything like it (in any series, I think). It's a different spectacle than a dominate car, but still a spectacle. It's all good, just different!

One thing that could easily be improved is the sound of the cars. IMSA has proved that. People are going to the races just to hear the Aston Martin (I wonder how many of the record crowd at the Indycar/IMSA weekend at Long Beach were lured there to hear the AM?) So why not loosen up the resonators on the other cars too? Even the Cadillac is a bit too quiet for my taste.

Great race weekend upon us with 2 REAL road courses - Laguna Seca for IMSA and Spa for WEC!

Cool throwback livery on the safety car at Laguna Seca ....

That is one great looking safety car.

Pfaff went another direction for their livery, https://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/pfaff-unveils-fan-selected-motul-livery-for-monterey/

Ugh ..... Ferrari 1-2-3 in Spa qualifying :( This was after BoP adjustments to slow them down. Porsche is not even in the same zip code. And Toyota are even worse. It's only frustrating because of the BoPs. If this was non-BoP racing and Ferrari were simply dominate, great! But it's not. It's hard not to start thinking if there are some lobbying/political aspects at play ...

Another good day for Porsche, this time at Laguna.

1-2 for Porsche Penske and 1st in GTDPro for Roxy . First win for the Roxy livery . Well done 👏

Those last few laps were excellent.

I wish Tandy did not have to butt the BMW out of the way to get past the Pfaff Lambo. Rubbin ain't necessarily racing is what I think.

rfuerst911sc 05-12-2025 04:34 AM

The way I saw it Tandy was in a sandwich . In the middle he had no where to go . Three wide into that corner wasn't going to work for anyone . The BMW gambled and lost out . Racing incident . The officials agreed . Generally speaking I don't like rubbing is racing . If Tandy backed out he loses 2nd place . If the beemer backs out he has no chance to gain 2nd place . Flip a coin .

I always look forward to the special liveries some of the teams run at Le Mans. Sometimes they're not that great, but these Mercedes GT3s look so 'right' in traditional silver! There should be a requirement for all of them
to run in silver all year in every series ....

Also, the Toyota looks great in the old GT-One livery:

Quite the race in Detroit today . Porsche Penske had an off day and finished 3-4 that's how you win championships . Roxy finished 4th in GTD Pro . Congrats to the winners .

astrochex 05-31-2025 03:33 PM

It was a brawl in GTD Pro. Roxy survived the muggings, even the late Corvette love tap.

CurtEgerer 05-31-2025 05:17 PM

Good racing with lots of passing on that narrow-a$$ track. Pretty cool to see Mustang win in Detroit and Edsel Ford II celebrating in the winner's circle with the drivers.

CurtEgerer 05-31-2025 05:23 PM

Also, nice to see the return of the iconic Kendall Motor Oil 'victory sign' logo on the roof and sidepods of the Acura. Have not seen that in quite some time.

Acura had a BOP adjustment for this race . I think the announcers said they removed 50 lbs of weight and given an extra 28 hp . It obviously helped :D

CurtEgerer 06-01-2025 03:21 AM

Yeah, the BoP made a big difference for Acura. But it made for one of the best races in a while so it's hard to complain. Cadillac was the surprise. They've been nowhere all year and somehow nearly pulled out the win!

Renger (who drove the Cadillac last year) had inside info on where to make the winning pass - Turn 1. He knew from last year that was Cadillac's weak spot.
