Marketplace is 90% of the reason i have a facebook.

And it is incredibly frustrating to use. You get the dumbest crap when you list something. I guess because it's so easy to just 'click'. Actually i think marketplace really can be best described as an app for saying 'is this still available'.

Marketplace is also full of stolen cars. Lots of “title missing don’t ask any questions” ads.

Does reporting them actually do anything, or is it just a way to feel better?

I'm not sure if I agree with this.

What if it is only worth $1300?

If was only worth $1300, I'd be asking $1300.

I am not sure what type cars folks here are looking for. If you want a collectable Chevelle or 911 cheap...I suspect that you will not find it. Of course I don't know much about selling cars. I used to flip them in the late 70s and early 80s but have not sold one since. Back then, one generally asked somewhere between the trade in book value and the retail one so here was some room to negotiate. You put a sign in the window and parked them somewhere. Now they would get vandalized or towed. I just keep the ones I have because selling them seems like a PIA and in don't really need the money. Never traded one in because it is almost always better/easier to make a good deal with cash. All are in drivable condition and have good (if not perfect) bodies, but some have faded/thin paint. They take up space. One would think that a good-running car would bring some decent money, even if a bit dated, but that does not seem the case to me now.

No one seems to want old cars unless they are cool. Even kids drive nice, almost new cars. It seems like (to me) that buyers and sellers just don't really have a way to connect. I assume most folks with cars to sell legitimately don't do so on facebook. I don't even have an account.

What? Crazy talk!

I find that the best way to sell a car worth $5000 is to price it at $100,000 and then wait for the low-ballers.

Market place finally bore some fruit . This car has been for sale all winter. Im pretty sure I saw the ad around Christmas .
I messaged this guy about a month ago ., it was one of those " just trying to see what I can get " ads, no price, no real description . I messaged him and asked if this amount of $ would take this car. I said I'm a lifelong car guy and love old volvos .
I figured he was looking to get 10 k like all the other nutters out there, but tossed out a lob anyhow .
He messaged me last Saturday .I couldn't make it over the weekend , as I was running kids around , but managed to hook up with him tonight .
This kid was cool as hell . He said he has had hundreds of contacts about the car, but snooped my facebook and knew I was the guy for the car .
Dirt cheap too .
Its pretty rust free for Pa, a few small scabs on the rocker , and one soft spot on the rear floor, but otherwise really clean . Dead battery, but started instantly and purred like a kitten. Drives great, except the power steering rack leaks quarts per minute .
This will be a quick and dirty fixer upper , but I have a vision . I've been eyeballing these for 15 years now .
My goal is to make my yearly pilmigrage to the Outer Banks this Summer in it kid and dog in tow .
In the last 6 months, I bought a 997, and a macan, butI think I am far more excited about this old sled , than both of them combined . My girlfriend, kid and dog approve also

Last pic from Mount Washington, over looking downtown Pgh. the car was in a really sketchy area, but only 2 minutes from this beautiful view.

BTW....I bought another Interceptor from FBMP tonight and plan to pick her up this week. Hopefully by Wednesday.

Did exactly what I wrote earlier. Sent a message with my name and phone number asking for a call to discuss the bike. That happened and in one phone call the deal was forged!

I didn't have to look at the bike in person before making up my mind. I had the photos plus a video from the listing.....and then by speaking to the seller by phone was able to make a decision.

Will post in the motorcycles thread after I get her home!
