Odd question about 992. Need to move one without calipers
Haven't been on the forums for awhile and couldn't find the 992 section, so figured I might as ask here.
Friend removed the front and rear calipers on a 2021 4S to have them sent out to be painted. He had some miscommunication with the wife and she's complaining about the car sitting in her parking spot in the garage (makes it difficult to get in/out of the door) And the calipers have already been sent out. The driveway is flat, all we want is to put the car in neutral and move it. But I cannot figure out what setting the car needs to be in. Does anyone know the correct procedure so we can push this car around as if it's a roller? |

Should be able to turn the key to on without touching the brake pedal. This should allow you to move the shifter to neutral. If not, you make a have to crawl under the brake pedal and see if there's a switch you can depress without pressing the brake pedal so you can start the engine and move it to neutral.

I'm not sure about the 992 but some cars share the brake fluid reservoir with the clutch. Therefore, I would shift it to neutral without using the clutch and also don't touch the brakes (except parking brake).
Lastly, my car (Cayman) requires the clutch to be depressed to start but you should not be starting the car in this situation. Last edited by Tidybuoy; 05-15-2025 at 02:18 PM.. |

If it’s automatic, May need to do like David said: get under the dash and manual depress the brake switch without stepping on the pedal to get it out of park…I would think. (So it doesn’t squirt brake fluid all over the place)

Is there a button in the console to release the shift lever? A lot of vehicles have that.

Whatever you do, make sure you set up a camera first!
What could possibly go wrong? 🤪 |

Counterclockwise?

How is it not dripping fluid now?
It only takes a little push on the brake to engage the shifter. I say you're over thinking it. Just go for it.

Whenever i attempt something like this, I always keep a few 4x4 blocks , or wheel chocks handy , just incase it starts to get away from you .
If is starts a rollin' , toss one behind the wheel right quick . You would be surprised how quickly things get ugly. I saw a friend almost get pinned tyring to stop one Just my .02 for the day Best of luck

As someone else mentioned, if all of the calipers are off, what difference does it make if you depress the brake pedal? I'm assuming that all of the brake fluid has been drained and he is putting in fresh fluid after re-assembling it, right? What am I missing here? ![]()

^^ not if the driveway is slopped. It will do a pirouette if you lose it. Definitely need the video then!

If you use the brake pedal be careful as moving the m/c past its 'normal" throw (ie against pressure) can damage the seal.
