That thing startles me every morning when looking out the window. It has a 5ft streaming spinner ribbon at the bottom and it appears to be a snake with any wind.

You just clearly need to get rid of the PITA JD and get a zero turn where all of this maintenance crap is a lot easier!

I guess the only downside would be if your tractor has PTO and you have various attachments other than just mowing. Don't you have a vacuum for the leaves? I don't know that would be an option on a ZT. But maintenance on them is super easy including removing the deck if you want/need (usually just easier to put it into wheelie position and slide under it)

This JD has served me well. It has power steering, cruise control, and a very comfortable seat.

I bought it new 22? years ago for $7200
My only other lawn tractor I've owned was a JD 317....not bad, 2 tractors in 50 years.

Yes, I pull a Trac Vac in the fall for leaves and grass. (the TracVac has a Honda engine)

This thread got me thinking. I've got a 728, which is a compact tractor wannabee, and even with the deck removed from the frame, I get the heebeejeebees lifting even the deck like that to attend to the blades. Double goes for the side pull behind.

Although I think the front end is more than strong enough to be lifted like that, even at the front axle/frame pivot, I don't like getting my own mug under such things. Specially when you are trying to tighten the deck blade volts and the top is swaying in the breeze from dangling.


All day, I've been thinking of the HF ramps which are plenty to hold the tractor, and I've been thinking it would be cool to make some inboard ramps parallel to the car lift ramps for the width of the tractor-

But then I wondered if you took one of the HF ramps, and mounted it perpendicular to the 'lead in' on the car lift, bolted in place upside down (like I pictured my ramps), and drove the front tractor wheels into the HF ramp- it would catch the front wheels and lift would raise the front end just like the strap. Would have to be in neutral though, and would want to strap the front wheels down into the HF ramp.

I would still probably do the inboard ramp thingee like others said though. Might not be as good access with the ramps running between you and the blades, but at least for me, less heebeejeebees.

The perpendicular HF ramp would be a heck of a lot more stable than the pulley thing though. I hate doing the pulley strap myself so much I usually put off sharpening blades way longer than I should. Cleaning the deck? fudgettabouttitt~!

^^^ I think the front beam of the lift would interfere with the deck when trying that. Lifting it might damage the leading edge of the deck.

I sharpen the mower blades every third time now. The lawn looks better than ever.

You purchase a second set of tracks, secure with screws to crossmember

Stand the second set of tracks in the corner when the Deere is not on the lift

Alternatively, you could drill holes to bolt the existing tracks at a width appropriate for a lawn tractor

If it were me, I would make something out of PVC angled such that I could power wash the bottom of it without bending over with the tractor sitting on the ground.

Clearly the only solution is to mount two ramps over the turtle pond. powerwash it there.

Turtles get fresh water and grass. Mower clean. problem solved.

I bought an Amazon pvc under deck washer that would spray up a few years back.
It was worthless to me....maybe my water pressure is not enough?

They are too spoiled to appreciate grass...it's freeze dried shrimp or turtle pellets.
