I forgot about that! I watched a few of his videos years ago, but this time lapse is a great way to watch.

Very cool. That is a young guy with mad skills.

He's like the shipwright's cousin of "Mr Chickadee"

There are restoration projects, then there are restoration projects!

That video was a honor to watch!

I purchased the boat TALLY HO for $1 in 2017 and moved it to a friends house to start work. I didn't know how I would fund the project but luckily my YouTube videos picked up some momentum and people started wanting to get involved. Eventually the whole rebuild process was funded by its online audience - through donations, patrons, volunteers, and many other acts of kindness. I'm so grateful to have been able to facilitate the rebirth of this historic vessel and I'm honoured to now live on board.
The next challenge - sail halfway around the world to compete (100 years later) in the same race that she won in 1927.

From wikipedia:

Tally Ho is a gaff-rigged cutter yacht designed by the artist and yacht designer Albert Strange. The 48-foot (15 m) yacht was built at Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex in England and has previously carried the names Betty, Alciope, and Escape. By 2017 the hull had nearly rotted away, and was in danger of being scrapped. Its owners, the Albert Strange Association, sold it to an English boatbuilder to be completely refit. Seven years later, in June 2024, with the restoration nearly complete, Tally Ho sailed in the open water of Port Townsend Bay.

That's a great video... (The cost of the materials must have been staggering).

There is something about wooden boatbuilding that is incredibly appealing.

Yeah sure when you have the tools and the talent such projects are ....still incredibly difficult!

TimT is kinda right. That was more than a resto. That guy has superb skills. The fit of those cuts is impressive.

Still have grandpa's hammer. Head was replaced once and the handle three times.

Does the new Tally Ho get to keep the original hull number? I think it should, if it has one.

I like the fact you can walk around on the deck barefooted without getting any splinters.

Really enjoyed the video, but I'd still get sea sick on it I bet.

Not everyone has access to the scope of equipment and tools depicted in the video. Impressive as heck, but he may have paid $1 for the rotted shell of a boat, but spent many many thousands making it float once again!

I think YouTube revenue and supporters/sponsors relieved him of that burden. But there had to be tons of labor in that project.

I have a lot of respect for what he did. Young guy, with shipwright and video skills, brought a meaningful boat back to life, raised $100K for his host family’s medical bills, helped some young people get experience and jobs in the boat building trade, gave good exposure to Port Townsend’s boat building industry, entertained and educated a lot of people.

Another good crazy boat build Youtube channel is Acorn to Arabella where this guy over several years built a huge wood boat at his family farm using wood from his family's woods. I have watched nearly every episode over the last couple years. He was not a boatbuilder or sailor but he did it. He and his girl friend are currently living on and using the boat. Boat is not as nicely finished as Leo's Tally Ho but still incredible that this guy was able to accomplish the build out on a rural family farm.
