Life is happening fast.

I remember as a tiny kid the year would move by at a slug's pace. I think I was waiting for summer break and Christmas. not sure.

now? for fox sakes, it is fast!! my wife and I drew a line in the sand. next July, is my tentative retirement date. super crazy, since I am going to Alaska in July to catch a giantass halibut. it might be, that I come home wearing lots of flannel and smelling like fish only to pack up my office. hahah.. (cant believe I am saying this)...I could push it back a year to benefit from a pay raise...but not sure.

this year is as good as gone. we go to Taiwan and Tokyo in November which will feel like the punctuation mark for 2025 for me. Dec, road trip to Texas to shoot a wild hog and maybe some Arizona Squirrels, if the hunting seasons line up.

I wish life would slow down some. I woke up shocked that this year is half gone. I am thankful for my health big time. I read monthly of deaths of people at work. some dude retired and died 2 months later unexpectedly. that is gross.

I caught my wife looking at Sprinter Van conversions the other night. hahahha...

Yep, the older you get the faster times shoots past. We've got a lot of turbo lag, but when the turbos kick in, whoa nelly!

It's not the speed that kills you, it's the abrupt stop when you hit the wall at the end of the straight.

One of my favorite sayings is: "Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes." So whatever things you find enjoyment in, don't let up. Congrats on you plans, Cliff.

^^^ Yup.

I went to my first HS reunion since I graduated from HS 50 years ago...reunion was last month.

Not 50 Cent, 50 years! Yikes.

A few things jumped out at me:

- My HS class at the Catholic HS I graduated from had 70 graduates, 12 of which had passed away before the reunion.

- There were any number of husbands, wife's and brothers and sisters of the attendees that have passed as well...many I knew well back in the day.

What struck me was the resilience: There were easily five folks who had lost wife's and husbands and had remarried, some just years ago...I believe you can't fake happiness; no one was, they all seemed delighted to have found the next chapter, solace.

I have no words of wisdom other than the old Yiddish proverb: "People plan, God laughs".

Or, an old Navy saying: "Attack, don't track..."

Or, from my Scottish/Welsh mix of a Grandfather: "You need to schite, stand or stampede, Son..."

I'll stop

Revel in what you can influence, plan for what you can't.

Try working 80+ hour weeks and see how fast time goes by. Can't wait for it to slow down to 60.

Just means you're over the hill, Cliff, and picking up speed.

Get over it. Happens to us all.

No reflection on you but the above statement made me laugh (at myself) because my "tentative retirement date" happened 18 months after the one I initially picked.

Just remember that no matter where you are in the roll, 'stuff' is going to have to be dealt with so enjoy each day. The stuff may be different after retirement but there will still be stuff.

Good on ya Cliff. A friend's been telling me to hang it up soon because the sunset is in the rear view mirror. Good thing is, I am still having a lot of fun working. Get enough rest, exercise and then there's the stupid diet. That is the hardest one to overcome. Go get that big fish. The reason I still haven't quit is my employees. They have been with me for 25 years. If I quit, they quit. These are great folks. I am stuck for a bit longer.

The Jaws thread really hit me like a big rock. It was just like yesterday I was at the edge of my seat at the opening scene with the girl swimming in that shark infested water. Suddenly, that was 50 years ago. Fooking 50 man.

There comes a time when it slows down again, every day seems to drag on forever, and you wonder how much longer this is going to last.

This, I can understand. Especially since the collapse...and now the post surgery struggle to make a comeback. Combine that with memories of many close friends who are already gone, and well....
