Cayenne on a U-Haul Trailer
I need to tow a 2004 Cayenne turbo about 60 miles.
It looks like the standard U-Haul car trailer will do it... The trailer max tire width is 76", the Cayenne is 65.4". Vehicle width is 76", trailer can take 79". Anyone done it? Option 2 is pay a flatbed service, which is pricey.

Looks like measurements are fine, better check the max weight ratings.
U-haul won't rent a trailer unless the tow vehicle is 3/4 ton or bigger |

Maybe I got lucky but used a 1/2 ton f-150 to tow a 911 500 miles about 6 months ago. They do ask tow vehicle and vehicle to be towed specifications

What about a tow dolly?
I've used them numerous times...twice for my 911

As long as you have something that will tow about 8000-8500 lbs total weight, you should be fine.

I have a full sized F150, and I do not need to exceed 50MPH. I will do some more checking.
The vehicle weight is under the trailer max by about 200 pounds. It's not something I would do for 200 miles at high speed in traffic, I feel okay on uncrowded roads at lower speeds. Thanks.

I’ve hauled 3 cayennes on my 16’ flat deck. No issues.
I’m puzzled why this is a thing.

^^ it is if OP never trailered before.
To the OP, If the trailer doesn't have surge brakes, you will need a brake controller in the tow vehicle. And don't use those thin, 1000# HF ratchet straps. I think mine used to be 2" 4000# rated.

U Haul trailers have surge brakes and are pretty dummy proof. We used one to tow to Watkins Glen. I was impressed with how easy they made things.

I've trailered a lot of stuff. Just not a Cayenne on a U-Haul...I was more worried about it fitting than anything else.

I rented a UHaul motorcycle trailer 2 months ago and the tires were dated 2014. Just a suggestion to check the tire dates.

You don't mention the tow rig? You have AAA? If you do, they will cover a tow that far and then some. or at least get you a deal on one of their preferred carriers....
Whenever I ask a question like this, I want somebody to talk me out of it cause I know it's stooopid and am only looking for a second NO vote.

Looks like uhaul will approve the tow vehicle combo.
Might have to put it on backwards if the front bumper doesn’t clear the trailer’s front lip. You’ll see what i mean when you look at the trailer.

I saw a small uhaul trailer on the side of the interstate yesterday with a shredded tire. Good suggestion.

. . . maybe I’m lazy, a chicken or both but I would call AAA and have them do it. (Provided you have the 100/250 mile tow membership)
It’s free. Ok maybe I’m cheap too

Maybe U-haul has figured out that today's F-150 is a more capable truck than the F-250 of not that long ago. I have my own flatbed trailer, so haven't rented in several years.
My daughter & son-in-law want to pick up a U-haul trailer, and noticed the tires were worn way past legal. One could barely see where the tread used to be. When son-in-law said the tires must be replaced, U-haul's response was Too bad, either take the trailer as is, or don't. |
