800 Feral Pigs in 4 Hours - Helicopter Hog Control

From "Up North". Not a job I'd put my hand up for but it has to be done.

- Lots and lots of wild life including some really big crocodiles but only the hogs are shot.

800 Feral Pigs in 4 Hours || NT Aerial Cull for Conservation || Helicopter Hog Control

Pro shooters can still use semi auto rifles here (7.62mm).

One of my wife's cousins lives in Texas on a many acre ranch. He only grows hay, so no crops. When he starts seeing damage from the hogs, he sets up his rifle, and pokes the hogs with a nice big hole. He used his 4x4 runaround to drag the carcass back into the woods, an let the other hogs and critters take care of it. He has a pond, and has joked about getting a crocodile to dispose of it.

It is incredible the damage a hog can do to the land. It is open season on them kinda like killing mice or rats.

I practice humane kills. that isn't guaranteed in my hands. not from a helicopter.

That's impressive shooting!

It's a problem in Texas, and I think Louisiana and probably Mississippi too. I believe hunting them from helicopters is legal in Texas our Louisiana too.

We had a wild pig problem up on the vineyard when I lived up there. A group of them can bulldoze a lot of area in just a short time. They make a mess of it. They are not something you want to mess with on the ground unless you're well armed.

I've heard the opposite, especially the boars, but hey like the asian carp with a little prep anything can become fashionable if not an industrial product.

There is also at least one guy who hunts invasive burmese pythons in the Everglades barefoot at night. "zoinks" is his trademark i think.
Another who takes care of non-native iguana with an air rifle along the coast line. They are everywhere.

No end to invasive species. Humans took out the Mastodon, Passenger Pigeon, Tasmanian Wolf, etc and introduced the new ones.

Feral hogs in Texas can clear a corn field in one week. They come in by the 100s and just tear it up. I have suggested to my son in law that we get in with a hog hunt one night and help with a little pest control.

I've heard that but I wouldn't choose to eat wild pig because of the parasites they're carrying.

They are also an issue here in central Florida.
They cause amazing damage.

I'm going to Texas to hunt pigs right before Christmas.

they are not as prolific everywhere. I'm gonna have to work a bit. I'll be on foot.

there is a rancher named Scooter (RIP). he told me places with lots of hogs trap them and truck them to hunt ranches and let them go. a hunter pays a fee and if a hog goes by, it is too tempting and they usually wack it instead of waiting for something more exotic, or a deer. Scooter told me he buys pigs from a couple of counties over. his brochure stated they were invasive and taking over his place..good marketing.

a wild hog is delicious. but I do cook it thoroughly. no pork tartare..hahha.

My brother in law used to work on an oil baron's ranch in Texas. He always brought home coolers full of wild hog meat when he came home to visit.

A friend of mine sent me these photos of the hog damage in his yard.

Just one night of damage!

We have them here, but very few.
Studies have shown shooting them does little because they become weary and then are hard to find.

A large bait station, patience and dynamite works really well.

On the way out to the highway this morning, I figure I could wack that many gray and black squirrels from a golf cart using a 10/22.
