826,000 miles on a 930.

The algorithm showed me this this morning:

That's a hell of a lot of miles.

Yeah, I posted that on the car video thread. Very cool. The guy is still running a carpet cleaning business too! Says he invented the steam extraction method. If he did that's the best I know from experience.

I only have 202,000 miles on my 911. I have a long way to go to catch him. I may have to live to 100, which is a goal anyway.

Having owned and driven a 930, they are sort of exhausting and not really the sort of thing to go grab the groceries. Hat's off that that guy. What a badazz.

That guys story has been publicized for a long time. I think I saw it in excellence more than a decade ago.

The best part is the milage keeps going up substantially everytime its been retold. Guy is a legend.

I wonder what he has spent over the years. Several hundred k in maintenance inflation adjusted I am sure.

That’s freaking awesome. I hate the fact that these cars have increasingly become collectors items and never driven. It’s a damn shame.

Nice! Can tell he is very proud of it yet.
He still has the puffy visors also.

My 78SC had them when I bought it....sent them out and came back just like new.

Nice to see someone actually driving a 930.

While we are on topic, here is one of a 996TT with ~750,000 miles. Plus you get to listen to a RI accent

My guess is the mods both make it faster but also easier to drive. I know many, many years ago when 930 mods were common, driveability was on par with extra power.

Not a Turbo but a low power Turbo, driving my M491 is just as easy as my 07 328i with a little extra effort in parking lot steering.

Was the 4 speed exhausting? Or ...?

The 4 speed wasn't exhausting at all. Actually, the opposite. Much less shifting, compared to a NA 911 5-speed. Mine shifted easier, with less effort, than my 915s, as well. Clutches were a little stiffer and obviously the steering was higher effort.

They just had a little firmer suspension. Fair-to lousy A/C, which sucked in some parts of the country.

Not much different than a 911 of the same period. It's just that these cars, compared to normal sedans, were just less comfortable overall.

930 is a very comfortable easy cruiser in my experience provided it has functional AC

I’ve driven a stock 930, and while the boost lag was giggle-inducing, I definitely wouldn’t call the car exhausting. If anything, as a stock car, it was more comfortable than my SC.

The 911 platform is a very comfortable long distance driving machine in my experience. I can’t, but would love to vouch for the turbo as well. Unless it had a lot of aftermarket suspension work, I can’t imagine it would be any different.

It is, a little bit. A little firmer ride, less affected by wind.
