The blizzard of 2025 ...

Schools are closed, it's raining and 36 degrees outside... and Morton's is now out of salt .

Things sure have changed since I was a kid ... we also went to school when it was just hot outside

Drives me insane! Too cold - cancel school. Chance of snow - cancel school. Chance of severe weather - cancel all events. We are raising a bunch of sissies.

From 1st to 12th grade I never once attended a school that was air conditioned. I can remember sweat dripping from my nose onto my test paper as I sat at my school desk. And that happened many times. I even went to schools with no heat! Well, OK they were in Hawaii and the "halls" were just open sidewalks with a roof but no walls.

One thing that helped get me into professional photography was the fact that my high school had no AC except the administration office, and the yearbook staff room. Yearbook staff met during the final period, and usually stayed after school to work on the yearbook. It was regularly 100+ degrees outside and that one room with a window AC unit was a refuge, and I got to take a lot of the business from a local professional photographer, as I had a darkroom at home. He offered me a job while I was in sitting in class, as he was shooting things I could not as I had to attend class.

Only in Montgomery, AL did I ever have a couple of snow days.

We never had half days...if terrible weather, it was called the night before.
I never set foot in a bus until 6th grade and attended a two room country school.

The walk was 1.5 miles-twice a day.

All through jr and sr high school ... we might have had 3-4 eagerly awaited "snow days" .... called off at 6am ... never earlier.

Then we went nutz in the snow

And then it melted...

No a/c in any public schools I attended ... or our college dorms in ..... lovely HADES, NC

I grew up in in El Paso. if it snowed they shut down schools.

my buddy and I would jump on their family 3 wheelers and rip up the neighbor hood. I swear a kid drives across my lawn with a buggy, I will cuss and chalk it up to karma.

I only ever had snow days because the school bus got stuck in the snow and didn't show up.

One of the great joys of childhood was looking out the window to watch an evening snowfall and knowing that there'd be no school tomorrow...

I wasn't outside in shorts yesterday ... but we're having our second blizzard today ... schools are closed/closing.

Mebbe I'll actually see something frozen today mid-afternoon .... but it's doubtful....

I wish I was 15 again ... then I realize I don't

GOML .... unless it has snow on it

Growing up in upstate NY we rarely had weather delays from school . If the pipes froze at school then school would be closed . Two feet of snow ............... as long as the roads were plowed and the bus was rolling you went to school . I will say it was miserable standing at the bus stop in those conditions .

That’s the difference, isn’t it? Some places are better prepared for weather. I spent part of a winter in Syracuse NY and they had massive snow removal equipment ready to go that allowed them to open streets in a couple of hours. I live in SW Ohio we have snow, but not often and not a lot. We don’t have massive snow blowers, so they ask us to stay off the roads until they put plows on the garbage trucks and dump trucks and clear them.

100 % correct , cities/states that generally get lots of snow/ice every year are set up better than those that don't . And being prepared is big $$$ . I live in Georgia now and there is no way Georgia should budget the same amount of $$$ for snow removal as NY . We have some plows and brine spreaders but if we get 6 inches of snow we are paralyzed . But it melts away in 2 days

Back in the day I'd spend Easter break surfing VaBeach. One year it snowed about two inches and the entire area shut down. We donned rubber suits, booties , hoods and went surfing. They thought we were nuts.
