The new Pythons are going for $1400ish new and are all stainless, AFAIK. That makes the older ones more valuable and they are usually close to double that. But this one, being a custom issue, is like a left-handed 6mm rifle. Lots of lefties, but few want 6mm. Lots 6mm rifles, but few righties want them. You just have to find the right buyer.

Thanks. I can’t imagine anyone outside of the MPD, either current or retired, being interested in this but then I know zero about the collectible gun market. The one thing it has going for it is that it is in truly mint, barely handled condition…stored in a dark closet.

I'm pretty darn sure that there is a niche within the collectors' world that go after anything and everything "commemorative". I've read about various collections in the gun magazines over the years. Not an area of interest for me, so I've never paid all that much attention, but I'm pretty sure they are out there. You might be pleasantly surprised, Denis. It's all about getting it in front of the right audience.
Oh, and Rick - Colt has in fact reintroduced the blued Python. From what I hear they are beautiful, every bit the measure of the old Python. I might have to go look at one... |

There’s a Colt collectors group on Facebook (of course). And, I used to go to annual Colt collectors gun shows long ago. I’m sure they’re still around.
That could be a $5,000 gun, only problem is it’s not a shooter, it’s art. A retired police officer is best bet. |

I have my uncle's last badge and it definitely doesn't match the number on the gun, it's 4-digits:
![]() I'd keep the Colt if I felt more of a connection with it or if it was something really personal to my uncle but I think that he just bought it when they were issued and then put it away in a closet. He was an amazing guy and well known in his time in the department but all of those guys are long gone. My cousins when they were little girls made him this shirt so of course he had to wear it for them: ![]()
