Late 60s Z/28s are very nice IMO. They're fast, and can be made to handle corners pretty well. A very long time ago, there was a guy up on Mulholland who had a very, very fast late 60s Z/28, and also a turbo-look SC. He was just as fast in one as the other.

So something has to be said for those cars...I guess...

I personally love old American iron, 68 AMX is one of my personal favorites. Let my father talk me out of one as my 1st real car.

A buddy from high school insisted his brothers 72 Camaro with the bent front rim handled better than a Porsche and almost killed us both trying to prove it.

He hit a turn at the end of a 1/2 mile straight doing about 90, ass end came around faster than any Porsche I'd ever seen. We spun like a top through 2 1/2 more turns bouncing off the dirt embankments like a pinball on crack.

The hood popped it's pins and came back through the windsheild nearly decapitating us, good thing I had had the sense to put on my seatbelt and insist idiot friend do the same.

There wasn't one straight panel left on the car. And his brother didn't even mind, he had borrowed money from mom and dad for a new Firechicken and was selling the Camaro to help pay it back so now he was off the hook.

So don't blame the poor car, it has no choice in what idiot owner it ends up with.

I agree with that. I've read it a few times, but lately whenever I pick it up it's either read the 60 page speech, "This is John Galt Speaking" or read the rest of the book-- taken together it's hard to finish.

You could kill a hog with a good head swipe from Ayn Rand novel; plus spend half-a-year getting through the 1000+ page text.

I like Ursala LeGuinn myself, with steady dosages of Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath. Just keep me away from knives, or putting rocks in my pockets before I walk into bodies of water.

Only Plath I read was her book, "How to cook with Gas." And until there is a Facel Vega BBS for Camus fans, this is it.

I suppose the above is in incredibly poor taste, but if that's what it takes on a Friday afternoon. . . .

Boy are we the wine and cheese crowd or what?

Here's a combo I had one semester: Henry's "Portrait of a Lady," and Milton's "Paradise Lost."

Book report: A would-be European, smitten with a woman of culture, is cast down to the pits of America.

I got an F?

And if that didn't kill it, a stare from her beady eyes surely would.

What a dic*head this guy Darren is.

His apology is kinda thin isnt it? He sounds like Kobe Bryant. In reality, he's not sorry that he said it.... he is sorry that he got caught.

Yeah, but an apology is an apology and this one is at least worded well.

As long as he is driving a porsche we might as well try to educate him in the ways of the flat six so he doesn't make the rest of us look bad.

I like Ursula LeGuin too, I'm just waiting for a chance to read the new earthsea novel. With Jonathon Carrol and some Barbara Hambly being favourites as well this week.

It's said that any book can be improved by reducing it by 10% before publication. In the case of Ayn Rand it should have been 30%

After reading this thread, I am compelled to respond.

I was wondering if I should be more offended by a guy that thinks I am a "nerd" and inept mechanically because I use this board OR by the members of this board who think that I am "toothless redneck" because I own a '69 Camaro.

I don't get it. Sometimes I think there are people on this board with the attitude "if it's not a Porsche it's crap" and if it's not a 911 it's not a Porsche". Can someone explain this to me?

I have a widebody 911. It's a great car, but it ain't perfect. I also have a '69 Camaro. It's a great car, but it ain't perfect either.

I spent a year and a half building my Camaro (mostly rust replacement, I think you guys can relate to that part..). It's now a joy to drive in a turn as well as a straight line. No, I don't have titanium rods. And my five main bearing journals are quite adequate for the 450hp or so the engine makes. On the otherhand, I'm not too concerned about pulling head studs ..........

Today was the first time I visited the web-site the offensive post was on, and I spent a few hours looking around. I was pleasantly suprised, the guys on that board sounded a lot like you guys when you aren't too busy bashing Camaros, Corvettes, etc... There are also some examples of some pretty impressive workmanship. Isn' THAT after all why we do this??????

Pete

Sounds like a pretty good combo you have there.
